GTX 1050 stuttering problem (almost all games)
so i've been getting this stuttering problem since a month ago but i chose to look away waiting for nvidia updating it and i'm pretty late to update it.. so now my nvidia just got updated to the new version but a lot games are still stuttering.. it's not that big a of a deal though but now it gets annoying..

the stuttering wasn't that bad but still it's stuttering and it's getting annoying.. in Mirror's Edge Catalyst it happens when i move the character's head (like a 90 degrees rotation thing) and the game stutters, and it happens when i ran for a bit longer it stutters. And it also happens at the final mission when we need to run on the breaking glass

In GTA V it happens when i drive a car for too fast and when something goes on like a gang attack, or when in Pacific Standard heist where the team needs to go away from the cops after getting the money

(probably this one is unbelievable) In Minecraft it stutters when i minimized the game for too long, or if i'm travling for too long (in the JVM Arugment i put 4GB RAM to Minecraft but it doesn't really help much and my Minecraft never even reach 2GB usage) and i already use OptiFine and it doesn't make any difference..

Need for Speed 2013 it stutters when i drift or someone hits me even though i got 60fps..

there are some more games that stutters but i don't think you guys need to read all of it to solve it anyway..

Note: These games run in 1080p 60fps so it should not stutters..

Specs:
i7 7700HQ - 16GB RAM - GTX 1050 4GB - Win10 64 bit

Remove the drivers with DDU app (display driver uninstaller), select the remove drivers via safe mode option. Then once the drivers are removed download the latest STABLE NON BETA drivers from Nvidia.

I would also like to know your CPU and GPU temps. Download MSI afterburner (Currently bugged with latest version of Windows 10) or OpenHardwareMonitor and monitor temps during gaming and idle, report back with the results.

MSI itself is also bugged (atleast for me) I can't OC my GPU. All sliders are set to 0.

It's a mobile i7 7700HQ , set power options to high performance in win cp and plug it into wall receptacle.

Ps, and hope for the best.

1080p might be overly ambitious ^

What kind of hdd is in your laptop most are power saving 5400rpm hdds so you could swap it out for an ssd but if it's already an ssd it is what it is.

So when you reduce res or settings does the stutter go away, try 720p, lower game settings and turn off vsync?

https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1050-Notebook.178614.0.html

According to that ^ GTA V should be ok at 1080p x2msaa/x8af , high settings, no advanced.

Others like Rainbow six siege, dishonored 2 and PUBG aren't going to do well at 1080p.

it's a 5400rpm HDD, i do have an SSD but i didn't put my games into it because it only have 128GB capacity.. and GTAV is like 70GB..

Then get a larger SSD or a faster HDD
upcoast Aug 16, 2017 @ 9:12am
So the ssd has win 10 on it in this laptop and the 5400rpm hdd is also in the same laptop with GTA 5 on the HDD?

TBH, on my desktop tower pc I have no problem running GTA 5 1080p on the 2ndary 7200rpm game drive with win 10 installed on the primary ssd .

Try reducing game settings grass and shadows grass for some reason hits fps hard.

If this laptop is your only source for gaming then sure put an MX300 525GB in to replace the 5400rpm (cost about $160 usd)

the mobile cpu and gpu are not nearly as strong as the desktop versions

stuttering is most likely due to throttling (temp or battery)
and can also be if the games are installed on a hdd (or removable drive)

If can't afford a large ssd to replace the slow hdd, at least get a decent 7200rpm hdd to use for secondary storage needs. But overall, 1tb ssd aren't super expensive anymore and it doesn't need to be nvme speeds

If the fps is decent but it stutters, chances are you have it set to power saving or the drives are too slow. Having above 8gb of ram can help as well.

If it was a thermal throttle issue the fps would also be tanking hard.

Don't try to run demanding games when on battery, it just will never run the same as when plugged in due to only having approx 1/3 the available power output.
