Can't stop Steam from running on system startup (Win10)
OK, so I can't disable Steam autorun on system startup:

- Obviously, the "Run Steam when my computer starts" is unchecked in settings
- There is no startup entry in task manager
- Didn't find any registry entry with "steam" in it related to startup autorun
- Used Sysinternals "Autoruns" tool but that too didn't show any Steam entry
- Steam client service is set to manual

So as far as I can tell there is no way Steam can run automatically. And yet it does. I had to miss something but I have no idea where else to look... Any ideas?

I might have missed something in registry, although I think I did check all places related to autorun...

Try reinstalling Steam. There should be a entry for Steam Client Bootstapper in taskmanager.

I tried that too.

was going to bed bro ... well search to see if there's a shortcut in the start up folders of the start menu it can be one that uses the steam.exe to launch steam but also one that uses the steam pipe/url that's a shortcut which uses steam:// to launch the client and do something ... if you use sysinternals, try the app process explorer to see which app starts steam ...

Yea, this is no where to found in "Startup"
Its a Windows Service; do you not understand this?

You can try a freeware, portable program called Startup Control Panel or, if you can't find the offending entry with that, try AnVir Task Manager Free, as there was one time what I was looking for didn't show up in SCP but did in AnVir. These programs show you all the various locations where startup entries might be and make it easy to enable/disable them, similar to Autoruns but maybe they'll show something it didn't.

If neither of those help, try going to msconfig and on the general tab select "Selective startup" with only one of the first two options checked at a time, so see if it stops starting with Windows when you have services or startup items disabled, as that will at least indicate which of the two is the problem.

No don't use any unknown crap-apps; which that one is.

Use CCLEANER; it handles Startups, Services, Uninstall/Repair; and much much more.

Not sure which one you're saying is an "unknown crap-app," but SCP has been around for years, was developed by an ex-MIT software engineer, is listed on Microsoft's suppport site, and I've been using it myself for years with zero issues. And it doesn't even need to be installed, so there's no harm in downloading it and trying it. And AnVir is also far from unknown, and it's an extremely powerful and useful program, with what I pointed out being only a tiny portion of its overall capabilities.

I will agree that CCleaner is another excellent choice, and one I forgot, as I've never used it for that purpose since I've always used the other two programs. It's also a program that can cause more damage when used by someone without the proper knowledge, so more caution is necessary when recommending its use.

SCP, even the creator says he's moved on and all his created apps are way out of date.
Such apps should not be used in Win8/10 because it may do things incorrectly, or not show the user all available features, toggles, etc.

Ah. It works fine on Win7, didn't realize it didn't on 8+. Good to know.
