i5 6500 vs i7 6700 (non-k)

I'm currently using an i5 6500 in my build and am thinking about upgrading to an i7 6700, just wanting to make sure it's a good call. I currently like to stream, edit videos, and play games, and I know an i7 would handle those things much better than an i5, but I wanted to make sure it would be a good investment. I'm currently looking at one that's $230 on ebay. It's used, but the seller states it was pulled from a new system.

I used to use a laptop that had an i7 and whenever I watched videos of people playing games with similar specs versus an i5 there was a huge difference so I know an i7 is worth it, to an extent, for gaming. I play CSGO so it would help getting max frames at 1080p for that as well. I've also been wanting to start recording all games I play, whether I use the recordings for videos or not is up to me, mostly because I tend to have some nutty plays that I wish I had recorded and I had recently bought a 2tb HDD so I have the space to record to.

Let me know if I'm making a good choice or not.

Go for Ryzen. it will do above jobs while gaming. if you are interested in intel buy an i7 7700. 6700 is outdated atm

nah you can use i7-7700 if you update the bios of your MoBo. Upgrading to Ryzen is stupid as you need to buy a new MoBo too for no performance gain over Intel in games.
But yes csgo wont profit from it as you get 60 fps (that what the standrad monitor can display, besides that fps is not the key to be good in csgo) even with an old toaster.

There is a huge difference in 60 fps versus 300. I have a 144hz monitor so anything below that feels horrible. I get 200 or more fps, just looking to get a consistent 300. Having a higher fps means you have a better chance at having a consistent outcome in the situation instead of getting 30 fps in a smoke and dying because you can't react in time.

But yeah I wouldn't buy a Ryzen because I'd need a new mobo and see no need to go that route.

if you have a 90% fps drop then something is wrong with your GPU or your settings. And 300 fps are usless same as 200 as even a 144Hz monitor can only display 144Hz. But as all the profsseional palyers (that get sponsored and playing tournements and reaching finals) sitting with 60Hz monitors I seriosly doubt your statement that it is needed.

I do if you have huge drops but thats a problem with settings. And now fps are not the reason why ppl are better all the pros show exactly the difference since they play on 60Hz... really no reason to try to beat 300 fps.

nope because it is not. your monitor cant display more then 60 fps fluently then. so having more then constant 60 fps is useless... and still you cant explain why all the pros and the finals play on 60Hz

You are mistaken Vadim. Some people enjoy playing games at low framerates, for the extra challenge.
There is no "better" in this world.

if he would do multitaksing stuff alot. but not for playing csgo or capturing/recording csgo vids at that is GPU depending not CPU depending.
Howsoever if you not need the 8 threads it is not worth it to pay another 300$ for a 9% gain.

60 hz or not, everything feels kinda faster especially keyboard and mouse feels more responsive the higher the FPS, and that matters quite a lot if you take a game serious and you want to be competitive. Try to play CSGO at 60 fps and you will be stuck at rank Silver 1 forever. 60 fps in CSGO feels like 20, also at 250-300 fps in csgo you can't even see the screen tearing.
