CPU temperature maxed out at 73c
Am I running the risk of burning it out? I've heard it shouldn't exceed 70. I have an i7 6700

That CPU is fine up to 90c.

That's the MAX temperature right? I'm not damaging it by keeping it at 70-75c for extended periods

The 6700k will be fine up to 90c. You don't have to worry about the CPU damaging due to the temperature the CPU will thermal throttle and in a worst case scenario shutdown the system to protect itself. It will shutdown at 100c.

At 90C, the CPU will start thermal throttling (reducing its clock speed) to prevent possible damage from overheating to the CPU. Although it is reccomended to keep your CPU under 70C, 73C will not damage it.

Alright I won't worry about it too much. Maybe get an additional fan but that's all

The CPU cooler will affect thetemperature most but your case's airflow and quality of thermal paste used can also contribute to a lower or higher temperature.

Would a case fan not affect cpu temperature? I think the airflow is more or less fine and I don't want to take the cooler apart

How many case fans do you have at the moment and which direction are they pointing

It would only affect the temp you don't have enough airflow in your case.

One in the back and one in the front should be all you need.

Why would you care about getting more fans? 73c is plenty fine. My i7-6700k top out at 73C and it's overclock to 4.7Ghz, it's very fine at that temp.

Unless you live in Antarctica at below 0 degree and then you have nothing to worry about.

I dunno I just thought it was a bit on the higher side. But maybe I'm overreacting a little

It's more than fine.

73*C is cold for those higher end i5s and i7s
As long as you're not hitting like above 85*C under full loads, its fine
