FX CPUs are ancient and slower then the intel i3 and AMD Ryzen 3.

and all Ryzen 3 are a misconcept imo. They are to expensive and the ones that actually would deliver enough performance (still worse then an i5) cost also incl MoBo more then an i5.

The only real ryzen choices are 1600 and 1700 and OC them to the performance of a 1600X or 1700X.

8k series!

even those are far worse then the weakest Ryzen 3... btw the strongest FX is an OC#ed FX-6300 which delivers more punch then an OC'ed 8350 thanks to its TDP.

The 1200 is priced pretty well for what it offers, and the B350 motherboards are about the same price as their B250 variants.

The 1300X is overpriced though.
Thanks people.

Just get a 1200 and overclock it to 1400 levels and you'll be fine.

No, the fastest FX is the 9xxx with a 220W TDP. They could hang with 4770Ks if you didn't mind the utterly insane power draw.

The Ryzen 3 looks decent, but it needs to drop 10-20$/£. Don't forget they are true quadcores though and are unlocked.

fx9xxx as good as an i7? highly doubt it... you know, just because it haws same GHz doesnt mean they are same strong...

What if I wanted to use CPU @ stock speed, since I am not familiar with overclocking,

Overclocking is super easy. Look it up.

If you're that scared, spend a little extra on the 1300X or go straight for the 1400.

TBH i would completely like to avoid O.C. So ill consider R3 1400.

According to the benchmarks which I saw, Ryzen 3 ain't any faster in the games than much cheaper Pentium G4620.They can be considered as worth their price only if you buy them NOT for gaming purposes. Because they significally faster than Pentium in most other applications.

That is Ryzen 5. Its faster than Pentium, but noticably slower than lowest i5.

When the 1200 is at stock speeds this is true, but when OC'd it's basically a 7350k in gaming, which is nice for the price.

I'd really only go for R3 if you're doing more than just gaming (like you said) or you want a step up from the Pentium but you have a low budget.

All R3 is is another nail in i3's coffin.
Hence the "another nail" comment from MossyRathalos.
Intel kinda killed the i3, but Ryzen 3 sstomping on it to make sure it stays dead.

I doubt. On one hand, Ryzen 1200/1300x has the same gaming performance as Pentium so they are NOT "step up". On another, nobody today considers desktop i3s as gaming CPUs because they ain't any better than Pentium. Why anybody could choose i3 over Pentium? i3 has slightly better clock rate, it COULD have more LLC cache (i3 73xx has 4MB while i3 7100 has the same 3MB as Pentium) and i3 has AVX support which Pentium has not.
So, i3 became extremely niche product which very few customers really needs. As far as I noticed, It is now more often bought for office PCs. And Ryzen 3 really could be better for this tasks, but... It has no iGPU. And nobody will buy discrete graphics for office computers.
Thus, I doubt Ryzen 3 can compete with i3. But when AMD will release CPUs with integrated graphics (which it calls "APUs") they undoubtly will.
