The only real ryzen choices are 1600 and 1700 and OC them to the performance of a 1600X or 1700X.
even those are far worse then the weakest Ryzen 3... btw the strongest FX is an OC#ed FX-6300 which delivers more punch then an OC'ed 8350 thanks to its TDP.
The 1300X is overpriced though.
fx9xxx as good as an i7? highly doubt it... you know, just because it haws same GHz doesnt mean they are same strong...
What if I wanted to use CPU @ stock speed, since I am not familiar with overclocking,
If you're that scared, spend a little extra on the 1300X or go straight for the 1400.
TBH i would completely like to avoid O.C. So ill consider R3 1400.
That is Ryzen 5. Its faster than Pentium, but noticably slower than lowest i5.
I'd really only go for R3 if you're doing more than just gaming (like you said) or you want a step up from the Pentium but you have a low budget.
All R3 is is another nail in i3's coffin.
Intel kinda killed the i3, but Ryzen 3 sstomping on it to make sure it stays dead.
So, i3 became extremely niche product which very few customers really needs. As far as I noticed, It is now more often bought for office PCs. And Ryzen 3 really could be better for this tasks, but... It has no iGPU. And nobody will buy discrete graphics for office computers.
Thus, I doubt Ryzen 3 can compete with i3. But when AMD will release CPUs with integrated graphics (which it calls "APUs") they undoubtly will.
