Proper way to stop avast from scanning Steam?
Probably wrong section, but figured someone here would be knowledgeable. I'm just trying to get Avast to ignore Steam all together. When I'm downloading a game for example, Avast is kicking up scanning while it's downloading raising my CPU usage. It's redundant as I know not to worry about the safety of files I'm downloading from Steam. Have already added the Steam folder to my exclusions in avast, but it's still scanning. Any way to stop this?

Yes, add it to the exclusion listing; or simply use Pause Mode / Game Mode when you are about to run Games. Turn if back off for normal OS usage.

Turn off File Shield. You only need the email scanner.
Better yet, go to your ISP's website and see if they have an AV they're promoting, which should give you a full version for free.

i use avast (free edition), i let avast do its real time protection scanning as a protection against online threats.

you can manually set avast to run in silent mode. usually, i only this if avast smart scan finds no threats.
