Are GeForce GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti worth it?
I'm already gaming at 2560x1440 (on a 4K monitor) at good frame rates.

But... I've dug up an older PC and I'm thinking of moving my GTX 980 Ti into it. (Z68-B3, Intel Core i5 2500K, 32GB of HyperX 1866 CAS10 DDR3-SDRAM, Etc.)

Then upgrading my current PC (Z170, Intel Core i5 6600K, 32GB of G.SKILL TRIDENT Z DDR4-SDRAM @ 3200 MHz, Etc.) to a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti.

I just don't want to spend around $1,250 Australian Dollars 💵 and be disappointed.

You won't be.

Unless you expect 4k @2560x1440 at 100+ fps

Wait why are you thinking of switching from an i5 6600k to an i5 2500k?

He found a PC and is buying a new card for his current PC, moving his old card to the crap PC he found.

So you'll have two systems by the end of it?
i5 2500k/980ti and i5 6600k/1080 or ti?

For 1440p, get a GTX 1080. For 4k get a 1080 ti.

Yeah.

Sell the 2500k with the 980 and use the cash to offset getting a 1080Ti.
I guarantee its worth every Penny

2 problems with that.

1. 4K is limited to 60Hz so sh*t for gaming.

2. 1080Ti would struggle @4k on ARK etc. at ultra settings on larger screens.

The 1080 ti is the best you can get atm for 4k gaming so he doesnt really have a choice.
No, I want two PCs at the end of the process for LANing, etc.

The "crap" PC currently has a GTX 770 4GB OC Edition. (6,500 in 3DMark with the CPU at stock 3300 and RAM under clocked to 1333).

I'm thinking..... my worst useful PC would be pretty awesome with a GTX 980 Ti in it instead,... I just need something to replace it.

I'd love to get 100+ fps at 4K, similar to what I nearly get at 2560x1440 on the GTX 980 Ti in my "good" system. (Around 70 to 100 fps in Just Cause 3, etc).

Your 2500 would bottleneck the 980ti, not best performance. Be real, thats second gen i5 you're talking about mate.

From my personal experience with my 1080Ti and Acer predator x34; you are dreaming if you think the 1080ti will do 100fps on a 4k monitor in ark/just cause/witcher etc on ultra setttings.

Yeah, I'm thinking of saving up and then getting the next gen card or whatever is released around October 22nd/23rd.

I'm used to 60 Hz gaming with Vsync disabled at 64 to 128 fps.

I don't care if the GTX 980 Ti is bottlenecked by a Core i5 2500K at 3.7GHz++, it's hands down better than a GTX 770 4GB OC and it's what I've got lying around.

So I might be disappointed by the GTX 1080's 4K performance!? 🙁

The 1080, definitely.

I can't get 100fps from ark on high settings and i have a QHD monitor with Gsync @100Hz with a 1080ti, and its not even 4K.

The big issue with 4K is that its limited to 60Hz, which means that apart from requiring huge GPU power, its not even that good for gaming yet.
