Are GeForce GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti worth it?
I'm already gaming at 2560x1440 (on a 4K monitor) at good frame rates.

But... I've dug up an older PC and I'm thinking of moving my GTX 980 Ti into it. (Z68-B3, Intel Core i5 2500K, 32GB of HyperX 1866 CAS10 DDR3-SDRAM, Etc.)

Then upgrading my current PC (Z170, Intel Core i5 6600K, 32GB of G.SKILL TRIDENT Z DDR4-SDRAM @ 3200 MHz, Etc.) to a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti.

I just don't want to spend around $1,250 Australian Dollars 💵 and be disappointed.

I'm in Vic and bought an aorus extreme 1080ti on ebay when a 20% off sale was on. There's one on now until 31/7. I don't think the extra money for an oc version is worth it as the cards can be oc'ed manually. The base price is pumped up a bit but with the 20% off a good 1080ti costs about $1100, Or you can get a 1080 or 1070 less 20%.

Unless you are bursting I would consider waiting to see what the new cards do.

Performance wise - with an i7-2600 in turbo, 1080ti Witcher 3 at 4K DSR to 1080p (no hairworks plus a few useless special effects turned off), fps is a minimum of 65 up to 75. Rain can slow it down a bit. I bought it to mod Skyrim 32-bit as I had a 970 which was too slow. Also to try WItcher 3 in 3D as one of my friends says it looks great.

For 1080p and 1440P The 1080 is worth it. If your wanting to play in 4k, get the 1080 TI.
