Do Curved Monitors heat your gpu more?
So my friend told me that curved monitors heat your gpu more.

He also says that he's unsure, I don't find any information about this anywhere.
So, I decided to post here to hopefully get an answer.

So, is it true?

Thanks for your answer, it really rounds it all for me. I think I'll buy it then :).
If you're curious of which monitor I'm talking about, it's this one: Samsung C24FG70FQU

A higher resolution and a higher refresh rate translate to more work for your GPU, but even that is relative. If it's currently running without vsync or something else limiting its output, you wouldn't even notice a difference between an old and a new, better monitor in regards to GPU workload/heat.

Curves are completely irrelevant to GPU's.

My friend has weird logic.

Yes, your friend is right, Curved monitor can cause GPU overheating. But don't worry, there is a Simple solution for this.

Just select your desktop wallpaper that is showing something Cold, Such as picture of---- North pole iceberg / Mountain with snow / or just a picture of an ice-cream.

That way, even if your curved monitor may generate some extra heat, but that heat will be taken away by the cold looking wallpaper. So your PC will remain healthy.

cheers.........:getin:

As it is curved, it focuses all the backlit LED into one central point and start a house fire, which in turn raises the room temperature (by a lot) and heat up the GPU.

Haven't tried a curved monitor though I think 24" may be a bit small. I did make a mistake buying a Samsung curved TV. For the most part its great my issue is it's reflective screen. On a bright day I need to close blind slightly to see things and in the evening I can't turn on a table lamp without it lighting up part of the screen. Ceiling light isn't that bad as it's high but anything at the same height as the TV is awful.

I recommend you check in a store or thoroughly check how much the screen reflects early on, just to be safe.

Idk 'bout u guys but I'mma stick to the first comment.

The only reason I want to go with that monitor is cuz it's apparently good, I'm trying to find a good budget monitor which is great for gaming and also has good color, including 144hz and 1920x1080. And it also needs to ship to Sweden.

Some monitor designs may a produce a tiny bit more heat as do others but there is no general rule of being curved or other.

But if we are by cold or hot wallpapers I once made a wallpaper which would blow your screen being too hot. I was even suspended from a certain site due that.

If you want a 144hz monitor with great colors, then you want IPS 144hz monitors, or you can get one that is VA over IPS.

Curved doesn't even make sense unless your aim is approx 32 inches or larger, at a sitting/viewing distance of approx 2-3 feet.

Avoid curved for Photoshop and Gaming; it comes off as hideous and ugly.
And the pixels will not look correct due to the curve.
24 inch is small for 2-3 foot viewing.
Koroskun Jul 25, 2017 @ 5:09pm
well TN is the best for gaming, and it's not impossible to get good color on that. The samsung has great colors apparently.

Nothing in Samsung monitors are good.
Look at ACER or ASUS 144Hz
Dr.Shadowds 🐉 Jul 25, 2017 @ 5:14pm
BenQ = ASUS > ACER.

Both worlds: IPS 144hz.
Performance: TN 144hz
