Anyway to allocate more Dedicated Video Memory?
Sup, I have an AMD Radeon HD 6670 with a total of 4864 MB of "Total Available Graphics Memory", but only 1024 MB (Dedicated Video Memory) are being utilized. Is there anyway to use more video memory, because I believe that's the one thing prohibing me from running games properly? I've also tried looking in my BIOS to use more, but it doesn't give me any option to do so.

Dedicated VRAM is the memory built onto the card itself. The only way to get more is to buy a new card.

That's what I feared...

You can only do that with integrated, not dedicated graphics. Also you only have 4Gb system RAM and that's going to be even more restricting.

Restricting on what? Is the rest being used for something else?

4GB of RAM is restricting, since this is memory that the OS use, and whatever apps using it as well, by the time you use the whole amount, it will struggle, causing poor performance or freezing issues.

For gaming, the minimum requirements for gaming is 8GB of RAM, 2GB of Vram on the GPU, and this is just to play modern games, since they got more demanding. Keep in mind, depending on the rest of your system specs, I can make a suggestion what to aim for when upgrading, as well with the budget in mind.

Depends on your system, list the specs, if this a pre-build, list the brand, and model, as well anything you changed on it, If you want something more simple run CPU-Z, click validate button to the right bottom, and click the submit, your broswer will open, copy the whole link and paste it here in the discussion please.

Unless this a integrated GPU, such as All in one PC, or laptop, then what it is doing is sharing with your RAM.

If not, then this is a 1GB Vram Desktop GPU, *(1024 MB in use)* as there only two models for 6670 one is 1GB, and the other is 2GB, by post you made, it's clear it's a 1GB Vram GPU.

Alright, and what are the games/applications are you trying to run, or having issues with?

Depending on the applications, may requires better hardware, and depending on your budget plan, I can make a recommendation/suggestion on what you can do.
  • GPU is definitely you want to upgrade.
  • CPU, is definitely worth to upgrade, if you want to play newer modern games.
  • If you get the Intel Kabylake / AMD Ryzen CPU, you want to get DDR4 RAM, with the new motherboard, then later sell off the old parts, or repurpose them for other uses.

Well, no particular game pushed me into creating this discussion, but I got games like the Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 just sitting becuase I can't run them in an acceptable state. I don't have a particular amount I'm willing to spend, but I'm not gonna be going above $1000 or anything.

And I was just looking for something that would 'boost' my PC at little to no cost, but that doesn't seem too possible. Odds are, it'd probably be smarter to buy something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3UKNVD/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_bFAShhT_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=DXD4R68A77WKHF71C9ZQ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=88579e3a-0ba6-5e41-bf48-6670e38532ae&pf_rd_i=13896597011 and popping in a second graphics card (if need be).

doing all that, you might have to get a new PSU too.

What I listed to you is the cheapest low budget getting into playing newer modern games, keep in mind you may/will need to change settings to reach your 60 FPS in high demanding games.

Here a example video using G4560 + GTX 1050 Ti.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efv4ho1Em7Q

If you wish to bump the performance in higher settings, then you may want to look at replacing 5 things in your desktop, which will be CPU, GPU, PSU, RAM, and Motherboard, which you want to save upto $800

$423.09+ <--- You need to add price of GPU you want with this build.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/g3QDgL

Ryzen 1600
8GB DDR4 RAM
B350 Motherboard
550watts PSU

GPU atm 1060 6GB / RX 580 are all sold out, so if you find one, or want something better then those add the price on top of the $423.09+ for your total. Also if you want more RAM, the most anyone will ever want is 16GB of RAM, but the minimum will be 8GB of RAM, but it's nice to have more RAM, if you like to have a bunch of things open in the background, while playing a game.

Also on my last post I got link mixed up for G4560, and G4600, but both will work the same, and are only $4 apart, which G4600 is only 100Mhz faster than G4560, but wouldn't make much of a difference in gaming really.
