Are my specs good for Skyrim? (Keeps crashing/closing on start up)
Here's a copy-paste from another post I have in a different steam forum:

Just bought the game. I start the game, it shows a black/grey screen and I hear the first few seconds of the intro song (I don't see the logo though, in fact I only see a grey/black screen and nothing else).

Specs:
Lenovo Thinkpad T420

16GB DDR3 RAM

Intel i7 2640 M - 2.80 GHz

Intel HD graphics 3000

PLEASE HELP

On low settings maybe. This isn't a gaming PC.

I've tried low settings, still the same issue.

"Lenovo Thinkpad T420" <- No.. maybe not even decent on low.
to be clear, that nb wasn't designed for gaming.

I'm not understanding how the game could just do that though. I've played the exact same game on a laptop with worse specs in the past.

In the past when? Skyrim SE is fairly new; and requires a DX11 GPU, which your Laptop does not have.

If you don't have DX11 NVIDIA or AMD GPU; chances of DX/OGL games running are slim to none. Your Laptop is from approx 2011; it's time to get something better. The only good Lenovo are the Y-series anyways.

Like a year ago. how is SE any different from what I downloaded in the past? I just want regular skyrim

Ok well SE is a Remastered version; if you want the old Skyrim, that is separate.

- too low even for FalloutNV it can work, but on low settings
SE use Fallout 4 Engine if i'm not mistaken
OP possible, can run game but on minimal settings... But a slideshow is not a game, it's a pain.

Could you link old skyrim? this SE crap is the first thing that popped up when I searched Skyrim

Does Skyrim-SE, when purchased, not give you access to the old/original Skyrim in your Steam Library? I doubt the old one is even sold any longer.

Literally the only thing in my library right now is SE. This is ridiculous.

How is it ridiculous? The specs are right on the store page, you make a judgement call and got it wrong, without reading anything. Just refund the game, as it can not run on such ancient hardware.

You're gonna need better hardware if you intend to do Gaming on PC, I can assure you this much. So before you start buying PC Games, get a better PC.

Yes I thought so...

Go to Steam > Library > All Games
Ones you own but not installed should then be listed, Uninstall Skyrim-SE and install Skyrim

It's ridiculous that they removed the older skyrim and put this new SE version on (which probably doesnt even have any significant changes whatsoever). When I bought the game, it was my understanding that Skyrim was not made in 2017. It's an old game. Figured I could at least run it on low settings. I just want the old version of skyrim so I can play.

I just got this laptop. It's easier to upgrade than most laptops (especially the one I had in the past) and I'm in no position to lug around a gaming PC. I'm in school and I need to save on $. What would you recommend as a first (somewhat affordable) upgrade for my laptop so I could at least get this game running?

The difference is that Skyrim runs on the Fallout 4 engine to improve graphics, and it supports 64-bit modding, which opens up a whole new world to developers.

It's a needed update to keep modding alive. The new graphics are fun too.
