Gaming Laptop or PC for college
I will be leaving home for college in about a month and I want an upgrade for gaming. Currently I have a pretty cheap HP Pavilion that still works great for browsing and word docs, but doesn't run most popular games. I'm thinking of getting a new computer for around $1000 and I'm leaning more towards a laptop for portability, but am still considering a pc. For my budget which would be the better buy?

I want to be able to run games like GTA V and PUBG at around 60 fps.

If you are only going to use the PC for gaming get a desktop, if you really need a portable machine get a laptop. A $1000 desktop can play any game 1080p - 1440p ultra settings a $1000 gaming laptop can play most games mid settings 1080p.

Planning on playing PUBG? Get a desktop a laptop is not going to run that game even a desktop can barely run it, that game has terrible optimization.

Not much. If you are willing to spend more get a i5 7600k and a z270 motherboard.

For 1080p, the i5 should be more than enough. Aim for i7 If you were at a higher res, editing stuff like videos and blah.

OK, because I'm a Media Production major and will probably be running Premiere and maybe Photoshop.

Everything above is true.
You should still get a laptop.

Why?
Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems you're starting from scratch here. No Monitor, no periphals, no Speakers, no Windows..

Those things cost money too, and if you try to build a WHOLE new PC with everything you need for 1.000 bucks you will be below comparable laptop specs ... real quick.
