Should I run 144 hz at 60 hz when Not gaming?
I see that the graphics card has to give more voltage when its pushing 144hz. Making me think the monitor has to work harder, and more wear and tear. I am not sure though.

Should I reset the monitor to 60 hz when its not needed. Or will the monitor last the same amount of time regardless?

I think that Windows already locks the fps when you are in the Windows desktop.

Unless it is an issue for your system, best bet is 144Hz all the time, as lower then you could have tearing on video content, such as YouTube/Twitch/Netflix/VLC for example.

Plus if you set the Desktop to say 60Hz, Games won't be able to go past what the Desktop is using, unless the Game is in Full Screen Mode. But then that also would mean having the GPU switching between say 144Hz Game Refresh and 60Hz Desktop Refresh should you ALT+Tab back to Desktop.

just keep it at 144hz dont worry about voltage or temps or anything

The monitor is designed to display at 144Hz at all times, so limiting it to 60Hz isn't going to do anything for you.

I have my monitor at 60Hz on desktop and 144 when gaming. Colours look better at 60Hz on my monitor, so that is why I do it.

I leave mine at the full 144Hz. I have a GTX1080, and no reason to do otherwise.

Then you are doing something wrong.

When you change Res/Refresh, then set the RGB to Full instead of Limited.
This is another reason to set the Desktop to that 144Hz; so this can be applied. As you can't apply that type of a change once a game is running.

Why hinder what you see, or how it performs? If you didn't want 144Hz, then buy it at all?

I will give that a try.
Thanks.

Thanks.

For example; going into NVIDIA Control Panel > Change Resolution, once Res + Refresh is applied, notice down below all of that; the Output Color Format (select RGB) and also Output Dynamic Range (select Full) and Apply. The default is usually (Limited) and that is generally why Colors look washed out, due to its lack of range when on Limited vs Full. If your Display allows, also change the Output Color Depth to above the default 8 BPC, again if that has options for that, most Displays will only have 8 BPC available; higher is better for higher color range/depth.

Those settings are not there in my nvidia control panel
dynamic range an colour format.
