CompatTelRunner.exe Scanning my steam games?
I have been having high disk usage from the process CompatTelRunner for a while now. When I checked the disk activity tab in the Resource Monitor I found it sniffing around my steam game folders. It doesn't seem to be malicous, but I think it scans my games on every startup!

Anyone got any ideas as to why it is doing this and how to turn it off if possible?

What OS are you running?

Should be able to disable that here:
\Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Application Experience

I am running on Windows 10 but is it safe to turn it off?

I don't see why it would be within your Win10; it's purpose was that under Win7/8 it would check currently installed apps for compatibility for "Win10 Upgrade" purposes.

Is it actually what it says it is, or something else disguised?

Check and make sure this executable is located in the system32 folder.

I'd recommend running a scan for malware, anyways.

Yes I would run AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 3.xx ~ update them and do full scans.

Left over from an upgrade, probably.

If this is a clean Win10 install, then I'd probably bet on something malicious.

If it was an upgrade; I'd suggest it is time to download the latest Win10 64bit build from Microsoft and do a clean install. Win10 has changed alot since July 2015 and really if you have had Win10 prior to around Aug 2016, safe to say it's most likely full of junk and problems you can't really fix without doing a clean install.

I originally used Windows 8, but upgraded to the free copy of Windows 10. Could this be whats causing the issue? However a clean install sounds like a good thing to do.

For the time being, just disable that in the scheduler and that should take care of the high disk usage for now.
