New 4K TV, but stuck at 30fps.
Hi,

I've just bought a new SAMSUNG UE40KU6470. I hooked up the an HDMI cable to it, but not the same HDMI cable as my previous 1080P TV, as it was too short.

Basically I have two problems. 1. Game mode is not working on PC. You can select it fine when on the Boot up screen and just before Windows loads, once Windows loads, it goes off.

I'm stuck at 30fps in games. In Windows my TV shows 3840 × 2160 60. As soon as I run a game, it says it's 3840 x 2160 30. I'm not even trying to play a game at that resolution. My game - in this case Fallout 4 - is set to 1920 x 1080.

What do I do to fix this? New cable? Windows settings??

Thanks in advance.

You will need to use a displayport cable to get more or a newer hdmi cable that is 2.0 as older hdmi is only able to do 30hz at 4k because of bandwidth issues.

Make sure your tv supports either as if it doesn't this will not be an option and usually using tv's as computer monitors is the wrong way to go.

The ps4 is working fine @1080p, so is it just a new cable?

The problem is you need a better cable for 4k as it uses more bandwidth then 1080p.

If the tv is stuck at that resolution this is the issue.

You could try downsizing to 1080p and see if that works however you may need to use a different port as some tv's have restrictions on each port.

On 1080p the only option is 30fps. This is quite confusing...

You will need to get the game mode or pc mode if it has that working.

Also remember that ps4 usually only runs games at 30 fps thus why you did not see the issue before.

The tv is 1080p 60 with the ps4 hooked up, it says so when I press info button on the remote.

I understand that, but, when i try to set it to 1080, only a 30 option appears any idea why? The TV is from 2016 and does support 60fps with correct cable.

Needing a display port cable is not neccessary on 4K TV's as I also have a Samsung 4k and not a lot of TV's have that port if any iirc, OP you must use the port that has HDMI 2.0 enabled not all of the HDMI ports will have this feature, same thing happened to me when i first got mine, mine is HDMI 1 that has 2.0 the rest will use 1.0 and ensure that your HDMI cable is capable of handling the faster speeds. mine is set to 60FPS

EDIT: if you need help setting it up, send me a message.

^^ Explain

I use a 55" Panasonic 4k UHD TV as my monitor, and it's perfect for gaming :Finger2:

First site that came up in google when i searched for "issue with using tv as pc monitor" was pcworld, quote from there:

There is an ideal situation in which the HDTV-as-monitor shines, though.

If you want to add an extra display to a single- or multi-display setup for entertainment—say, so you can watch Netflix or Twitter while you write articles, or so you can play Skyrim on a 60-inch screen—then an HDTV can be a very capable (and cool!) monitor replacement. Bonus points if you happen to have an extra HDTV lying around, or if you can pick one up for dirt-cheap.

When the bulk of your computer usage is tied up in gaming or watching movies, a big HDTV-as-monitor is a great experience, but it comes with a few caveats. First off, the same ergonomic problem applies, so you need to have a desk set up in a way that you can sit back a bit from the TV. Second, you're still better off with the higher resolution 1080p TV if you're using it as a part-time computer monitor, so the cost might bump up a bit.

That said, as an all-in-one entertainment solution it can look and work great. It will take some rearranging on your part to make it to comfortable to sit at and use, but if you can work with it, it will do you well.

You might also want to consider using the HDTV as a second monitor in a dual-monitor setup and keeping your current monitor for regular browser use or email writing. This will give you the best of both worlds, even if it does take up a lot of desk real estate.

Plugged it back in, this time into a different HDMI and I found a Silver looking HDMI cable. Messed with some settings and I'm finally getting 60fps again! Yay. Anyway off to bed for now.

Yes, usually there is only one port on such a TV that will do those higher specs. Glad you figured it out.

This is a late response but if you have a Nvidia GPU do these settings

Go to Nvidia Control Panel
Click on display
Click on Resolution

Change the res to 1080p and the 30hrz to 60hrz.

HDMI isnt the problem, suprised some people are asking you to buy another HDMI cable.

You're 2 years late with your response. This topic is from 2017.
