however it would be best to first start/power up Steam Link with either a Wired Controller, or a USB Keyboard & Mouse; connect Steam Link to home network and allow the Steam Link to be updated fully. As a new Link will be out of date with their software/firmware and require update first.
Then you can connect the Microsoft Wireless Receiver to Steam Link and do the connect between the the receiver and your wireless 360 controller.
So yes if you do not have it, you need Microsoft Xbox360 USB Wireless Receiver.
