home networking help?
Im having issues with my home network. First off my isp has my modem/router setup in bridge mode to connect to the internet. it is a surfboard 6580.
okay from there i have one pc hooked up to the ethernet port gigabit con.
from that i have a cable going to a switch in my living room connecting my other pc and other misc.
from that switch im trying to connect to another wireless router as well. problem is the router only has ports up to 100. that is why i bought the switch so i could stream games from pc to the other.
From what i understand the switch will not work properly because DCHP is turned off because its in bridge mode. wierd thing is my wireless works fine but all the cable connections arent working right.
Everything worked before putting the switch before the second router but my network speed is very limited.
Also when the modem is in bridge mode i have no way to change any settings except for wireless.

Any idea on what i should do to make this work ight?

You also want it setup like this:
Modem > Router > Switch

Disable all the "connection" types in the Modem; with it in Bridged mode you want everything as a connection, going through that 2nd Router. Configure the Router for how you want your Wired/Wireless connection setup. As you don't want there to be two routers.

thanks for the suggetions. Sorry i havent had time to come back on but im not sure i can do it either one of those ways. my default gateway is my isp on every device connected. my ip adress changes based on what the ip gives them. My routers only work in bridge mode the way it is setup now. At one point my secound router only acted as a wireless ap. this was with a different isp. before the isp change my main router was 198.162.0.1 and everything on my network was assiged ip's from 198.162.0.2 to 198.162.0.256. Now it is 198.162.100.1 and it does not give out ip addresses. so the second router seems to be giving out proper addresses and the switch pluged in works fine if i plug it in after that second router but that is defeating the porpuse of why i bought the switch to begin with. i think im going to just have to get a router that supports gigabit speed out. or maybe go wireless ac on my other pc.
