Chieftec A-135 750w - should I change it?

GTX 1080 from Palit (buying tomorrow)

Will this PSU be enough? I've alo read that it's not too reliable but I'm reluctant to changing it before I at least try. What's the worst that could happen?

Buy a brand you yourself can have faith in and trust.
Don't buy cause someone says a particular model is good.

I mean people see a Mustang and think, yea I'd love to have one. But that factor remains, can you trust Ford as a brand. Now this is just a broad example here is all. But you see my point.

To expand on that, make sure you source up to date information about the brand. Reviews that are 3-4 years old aren't helpful.

To go back to Bad Motha's example, whether or not you can trust Ford varies year on year. They've been completely trustworthy at times, other times they've sold cars with a literal bomb in the trunk. It's the same with PSUs, Thermaltake are pretty good now but I had a terrible experience with them five years ago.

Again I wasn't picking on a brand; merely an example.

So yea if you are looking at a certain model of anything; yes look at the brand itself is all I really meant. Regardless of what it is you are looking to buy.

concerning the PSU:
I've dug around and of those available the most interesting one was Corsair RM650x in terms of price/quality, at least seemingly. I'm slightly worried about the cooling system which only turns on when under load, but maybe that's no issue.

Other options are Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G 650W, SeaSonic Platinum-660 and XFX Black Edition 650W.

All 80+ Gold standard. There are also option from Be Quiet, BitFenix and Enermax and Fractal Design but I haven't done the research on these brands yet.

It was difficult for me because I've had a Radeon on my last 4 rigs and learned to trust, love and cherish Sapphire, but they don't do Nvidia GPUs so it was terra incognita for me.

As for up to date reviews - again I've looked at recent user reviews as well as benchmarks mos of which are 4 to 6 months old.

That... review is for a GTX1060. A GTX1080 is a completely different animal.

Case in point: EVGA GTX1060s are alright but run a little hot, EVGA GTX1080s are infamous for sparking and bursting into flames/not having correct thermal pads/VRM issues/being possessed by wicked spirits/many other scandals.

My bad, wrong link. Either way I had a choice between EVGA, Inno3D and Palit for the 1080. Went for the latter, we'll see how it goes.

You can check this review since Gainward owns Palit (or the other way around, can't recall) and they pretty much use the same cooling architecture

yeah that's a great option but it was 150 bucks over what the Palit cost me. And Palit was already over $100 above my planned budget)

I use the Corsair RM650X. Temperature is not an issue, and the fan only turning on under load is a good feature as it will reduce wear on the fan. It will provide more than enough power for any single GPU build. The 10 year warranty and price/performance value is why I bought it.
