1080GTX FTW Ideal Fan Curve
What's up players ?
I've got an EVGA 1080GTX FTW and I'm running it on a
-50% at 40°
-60% at 50°
-70% at 60°
Etc ....
I was wondering what kind of a fan curve profile other players use and what you guys think about my profile ?
My rig is in the basement so usually it's chilly
The idle temp is at 29-30
And underload it's between 50-60
And idle fan speed at 30%

The only game that had it at 63° so far was Far Cry 4 on quad resolution everything maxed .

Is my fan profile too aggressive and Am I putting my fans at risk ?

gpus can easily run at temps of 75c without issue unless you see 85c or higher the temp is fine

due to the fans being the only moveable part on gpus it does have the highest risk to fail but they should easily last until the 1080 is obsolete and useless
OK so with my profile I'm chill and safe ?

I figured that is cheaper to replace a broken fan than the whole GPU + I like being on the cool side of the temperatures .

yes youre fine but youre making your system louder than it needs to be
Have you tried to see what your temps are with the fan at default without a curve?
Cuz honestly i dont think fan curves are necessary when it comes to GPUs with 2-3fans unless supremely overclocked.
On default the fans don't kick in until it reaches 50° ... I don't know if its all the FTW editions or on all 1080 GTX .

As for the fans being loud , as I've mentioned it barely gets to 50°-60° on quad HD locked at 60FPS .
My older 680gtx went up as high as 70° and I didn't care at all but the 1080 was quiet pricey so that's why I'm playing it more "safe than sorry " lol

as i said before if anything youre doing more harm than good those gpus are made to run at 70-80c

if youre that afraid you shouldve gotten a warrenty for it

You will wear out the fans quicker with that fan profile. Have you experimented with the stock fan profile to see if you're really making that big of a difference?

same here XD
Which is what what lol ?
As I've mentioned without a profile the fan doesn't kick in until the temperatures reach like 40°C or 50°C.

And the difference between playing it with my profile and without is about 15°C to20°C depending on the game of course .

As for my profile is been over a year that I'm playing it with the settings that I've posted on the very first post and it barely even reaches 60°Celsius . My screens maximum resolution is the Quad HD ( 2***X1440) and it's only a 60hertz screen so I'm locking it at 60FPS to avoid screen tears . The only game that reached 63-65 °Celsius was Far Cry 4 every thing on maxed at 70% of fan speed .
Other than that all the other games under full load barely reaches 50%-60% of my fan total speed .

Sorry if the grammar isn't right English is my 5th language after all lol

Okay but what we are curious to know is
with everything at default fan speeds, no curve
what are the max temps?

And the fans not doing much until around 50-60C is normal, its to keep things quiet and efficient and prolong the fans lifespan.

in other words, current gen NVIDIA GPUs fans only spin up when they are needed to control temps.

Unless your GPU us hitting 80-85C in games without the curve then you are putting un-necessary strain on the fans

-
so what you're saying is without the fan curve temps are in the 70s and 80s?

Can't even remember the temps at default ... It's been over a year I'm playing with my profile .
I'll try it out once I get home cause now I'm curious too lol
After a little research I've seen guys with more aggressive fan curve profile than mine so I always thought I was more than safe with my profile .
Well you have to keep in mind that fans have a limited operational limit
case fans for example have around 80,000-100,000 hours or some such like that

If you make the fans run at a speed that isnt necessary then you are decreasing the lifespan in one way or another, not to mention making things louder.

i may not be correct, but i think you get what i mean.

Obviously GPU fans are more of a pain to replace than case fans so you want to keep them as healthy as you can.

Also keep in mind that if youve had that GPU for a while, it may be time to dust out the GPUs heatsink and clean the fans off, as that'll help with temps as well.
Oh my case is always open so I'm servicing it regularly and keeping it always clean .
But thanks for all the info ! I'll take it all into consideration :D
