Incorrect refresh rates.

So my 970 does not want to display the proper refresh rate anymore. I even upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 to see if it would fix the issue. I am still getting 59.94 and 199.88 hz for my refresh rate options. It just started doing this after the last couple Nvidia drivers and I don't know why I cannot get most of my games to display correctly anymore. If I use the less than 60hz rate then all I get is horrible flicker. The 119.88 hz rate makes everything kinda low quality. To make matters worse I have a 4k tv I have it hooked up to and I cannot go above 1080p without dropping to 30 hz or 29.7 or 24 hz.

I am getting POed because Nvidia wants me to send a crap ton load of data. (it would take forever to gather everything that they want and I was unsure how to obtain some of it anyway) Half of the data they want I have already sent in the e-mail. I am quickly becoming fedup with their craptastic drivers (The refresh rates and resolutions were working fine before these latest 2-3 drivers)

So does anyone know how I can fix these issues? I do not have the money right now to afford a new AMD GPU and to be frank it would be a sidegrade to get a 480x with the exception of more VRAM. So if anyone has an idea WTF is going on and how to fix it I would appreciate it.

I know one thing, after all the issues I have had with Nvidia (760 and 970), I will never touch their products again. AMD has always been rock solid for me.

what are you using to hook up your computer to the monitor?

and what is the monitor/tv your using?

TVs usually have very slow refresh rates, especially 4K models. Check the specs list, I would be genuinely surprised if it could deliver 4K + 60Hz. As for your other problem, you need to be clearer and more descriptive.

If you thought Nvidia drivers were bad, AMD's been absolutely awful the last three years. They're not the company you remember.

The 4k TV part seems like a cable issue. You will need a HDMI 2.0 or display port cable to get 60hz at 4k. Your graphics card or TV may not support that.

As for the main issue, I believe you can force set the refresh rate in the Nvidia control panel. This should be where you can also input a custom resolution. Fiddle with it a little bit and see if it helps.

If all else fails, you could try rolling back the drivers update. Not really a solution, but it should work if it is in fact a driver's issue.

Both companies have had their fair share of disappointments... No need to go fanboy for any side.

If you believe it is driver related, and if it did work with an older driver, then reinstall the last known driver that worked for you. Be sure to remove the current driver completely, before installing the other driver. You can use Display Driver Uninstaller for easy complete removal of the driver.

I am kinda wondering if the driver was "allowing" for a higher refresh rate than it could push. I am using HDMI but I doubt it is 2.0. The TV I am using say it can do 4k 60hz or 120hz at 1080p on the imput I am using. It is a vizio 40 inch d series previous gen. But it does say the input my PC is plugged into is 4k 60 hz. I still think it is strange that the refresh rate will not allow me to opt for even a full fledged 60 hz.

I am going to order a HDMI 2.0 cable. I was kinda thinking that may be the culprit anyway if driver or hardware failure were not the cause. So I will order a 2.0 cable and I will repost if that fixed it or not.

i highly doubt the 970 is to blame also can you link me to the tv youre using you should find the model number printed on the tv somewhere

FYI; I've got a GTX1080 and a 1440P 144Hz monitor. Running on an HDMI I only get 59 Hz max. Running on Displayport I get 144Hz, without changing any other settings.
