my computer has been running at 100% disk usage since i got my GPU
This has been a big problem for me, i've already tried DDU and it hasnt worked and i've tried to install older drivers and what not, but i've come to the conclusion that my hard drive is starting to fail.
I analyzed it like 5 min ago using the defragmentator and it is 4% fragmentated could this mean anything? also when i used CHKDSK it was stuck at 23%.

Also if you didnt understand my problem, my computer is extremely slow since i got my GPU like it takes maybe 5 seconds for task manager to pop up and it always shows 100% disk usage and some of my games take AGES to load up like CS could take 1 min for the game to start and then like 2-3 min for my workshop maps to load

Have you checked which apps actually cause the disk usage?

well it's mostly the system or antimalware executable or whatever

Then it obviously has zero to do with GPU.
Exit the apps using the disk, its that simple.
If you need those, well they will use disk usage when scanning, that is a given.
Get an SSD, then u won't have this issue.

bruh, when did i say the GPU was the problem? you dont need to come here with an attitude similar to an ass, i only mentioned the GPU cause the problem occured after i installed the GPU to my PC there should be NO reason for me to exit the apps to get more disk, and why would i need a SSD if everything has been fine?

Is the hard drive old?
Did you run diagnostic app on it from the drive maker?

But yea if Windows Defender or other apps like that are using the disk alot, add Steam to the exclusion listing.

For CHKDSK, press Winkey+X and click on Command Prompt (Admin)
type CHKDSK /F /R
schedule a restart. Then restart Windows and let that run, yes CHKDSK will take quite a while to complete on a mechanical drive. Once complete, Defrag the HDD.

well the hard drive is a little over a year old, my old pc got fried last year and almost all the parts broke so i had to do a quick fix so i bought a pre-built PC, yes yes i know that pre-built are bad and expensive but i did not have that much money or patience
and i have no idea where or what the diagnostic app is

Whatever the drive brand is; google the brand name plus drive diagnostics
that should easily get you to the app you need, which can check the hdd more thoroghly for faults. For example: WD Diagnostics or Seagate SeaTools

CHKDSK just verifies data and checks for bad sectors; it can't do much beyond that really. If the hard drive is actually failing, the branded diagnostics app should reveal that.

As far as Windows Defender goes
You can either use the program Shutup10 to disable it
You can turn off the realtime scanner

Or you can install something to replace it that wont cause the same issues, iobits Malware Fighter for example, which is what i used to disable it.

dont think you said
but what GPU did you get and how much Physical RAM do you have?

Yes, good to bring up the RAM. If you have say 8GB system RAM and you installed an 8GB GPU; thats going to be an issue. Installed GPUs need a certain minimum RAM, based on the GPUs VRAM. Whatever your VRAM, double your system RAM at the least.

my guesses are just that my drive is starting to fail, so i should probably just buy a new one

Ok, but that doesn't help troubleshoot the situation.

Look in Event Viewer, ID what is hogging its use for longer periods.
And diagnose the drive to see if failing or not.

Mechanical HDDs are slow, regardless of which model it is, and what your specs are.
When something is hogging it, either it is not normal for that app, or it is normal and you just have to wait until those tasks are completed. This is why we encourage the use of SSD type for the OS drive, because it puts a stop to all of that waiting, and overall bottleneck, to which HDDs are.

Well, if thats what you think it is then may as well look into a new one..
Just try to get something better than what you have.

As far as the RAM goes though
did you perhaps bump into the RAM sticks when you put the GPU in?
You can try reseating the RAM, see if that helps anything
