I don't need to worry about the controllers battery, I worry about the data being tranfered so I don't lose a game for a faulty cable.
You connect phone/tablet to PC USB Port via Charge-Only cable; there is no charger device involved here. But yes, you can of course use those same MicroUSB-to-USB cables from other devices on your Controller; if it is Data-Sync cable. If it is Charge-Only, which typically is what comes with such devices, will only charge your controller batteries, nothing more.
When I mentioned "Phone charger" I was refering to Micro USB cables that come with smartphones. Sorry to confuse you.
The reason to get quality cables is for stress; as cheap ones, the ends break from flex over time.
But quality cables are still like $5-10
The ones you see at say BestBuy, just overpriced stuff. They are not any better.
If you are buying AA ReChargables for a Controller; then best bet is buy those in the packs that come with a quick wall charger; like with a pack of 4xAA. As that charger will generally do a better recharge cycle then you plugging your controller to a USB port to do the charge. Then when u need to charge, have 2x already charged and do your swap, then stick the 2x that are low, on that wall charger.
The odds of a smartphone coming with a charge only cable are slim, if not none.
I assume you ask this because you have a smartphone with one, yes? It will most likely work. No harm in trying, either. It will either work or not work. You'll quickly know.
