Will my GPU temperature decrease if I low "Power Limit GPU"?
Hi everyone,

Will my GPU temperature decrease if I low "Power Limit GPU"?

I just want to do it temprary. Are there risks if I do this action?

Thanks for answering me!

I personally wouldn't underclock a GPU. What are your temps currently?
I don't know why... usually my GPU (amd R9 270) ranges from 60 to 80, but today it reaches 90° in less than 5 minutes. So I wanted to underclock it temporary.
Clean your system it if you havn't.
Check all fans are working.
Has the ambient temperature risen?
Yes, it should lower the temperature.

That said, you should blow out the dust, especially in your GPU heatsink, and made sure your fan curves are working as intended (either set to auto or create a custom profile).

Lowering the GPU's Power Limit will decrease power consumption, which in turn will lower the clockspeed and (depending on the GPU) will also lower the voltage, creating less heat. Be aware that this will also decrease your performance(FPS).

Underclocking a GPU, after doing research and knowing what you are doing, is the easiest way to make your GPU more effecient. Certain GPUs are pushed past their sweet spot to get an extra ~10% performance out of them which can increase their power consumption quite a bit.

The best commercial example of this is the Fury X vs the Fury Nano. The Nano was typically around 85-90% the performance of a Fury X but used about 70% the power.

Hi Amish! I appreciate you detailed answer! Thanks.

So... In short, if I low the power clock of the GPU, it doesen't get any damage, right? (as I mentioned before It's a temporary thing, time later I'll get back to default settings).

That video card has provisions in place to protect itself. There was a time when you could stress components and they would get destroyed due to temperatures.

i undervolt all of my cards with amd wattman. lower temps and fan speeds.
It will not hurt the card. It may run at lower clocks though, which is prob fine. U can also try limiting the fps and the gpu will downclock itself if it can maintain the fps lock.

which is the way smarter way imo. Underclocking means you leave performance behind that you could have used.
