(Solved) Should I Upgrade Mobo or Cpu?
Hello I am looking to either get a new cpu or get a motherboard to support overclocking... i have a prebuilt computer with these specs now:

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX 770k Quad Core Proccessor 3.5 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 360 2GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 Ram
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

the cpu is socket fm2+ and i don't know anything about the motherboard, psu, or the hdd or ssd... so my questions are

1: should i get a new cpu with socket fm2+ or get a new mobo to support overclocking?
2: do different mobos have different power requirements?
3: do you recommend any good mobos or any good cpus for socket fm2+?

the prebuilt is this:

The idea of grounding yourself is to avoid electro static discharge like you get if you rub your feet on a carpet and zap someone. ESD is easily avoided by simply rubbing your hand on metal like a chair or even the case before you start playing with things that have ram in them, also avoid wearing cloths that are 100% nylon/rayon.

You can leave the psu plugged in "however flick the switch on the back of the psu off" then push the case power switch 3-4 times just to discharge any left over electricity traveling around your pc, even if you unplug the psu you still need to push the case power switch a few times to discharge then you're ready to go.

Ps, it's nothing scary.

It's about 9 1/2 to 10 inches exactly between the beginning of the graphics card to the hard drive cages

Now if you excuse me I haven't cleaned the inside since I got it last september
ok guys i think i am going to order this one... but the q and a says that it doesn't need power from the power supply... does that mean that i can just get this and not the power supply?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M5BQRIO/?tag=gdextf-20
the minimum recommended power supply is 300 watts. so it sort of depends what your current power supply is capable of and how much the rest of your system draws. but if you didn't have any problems with the amd 360, it's probably sufficient.

yea my power supply is 400 right now and the amd r9 360 is tdp 85 so i should be good right?
also i was supposed to measure it from the back of the case to the hard drive cages right? or was i supposed to measure from the beginning of the x16 to the hard drive cages?

If the case in the vid Venlord posted is the same case get out a measuring tape and measure between the back of your case to whatever cage is in the front with the blue plastic (looks like hdds) then you'll know, looks like the gpu MIGHT slip under the hdd cage with any luck but measure and be sure. The dual fan gtx1050ti 9.02 inches is only a hair over 9 inches .02 of an inch is less than 1/8th of an inch.

Ps, the mini 1050ti is 5 3/4 in and the mini 1060 is approx. 6 7/8 inches
Also how tall would the gpu be? cause i have like half to a whole inch between the top of my gpu and the hard drive cages
in other words are all gpus the same height?

no, they're not all the same height.

here are the dimensions for the card you listed.
1.5 x 9 x 4.38 in

please note: the shipping time from the amazon link says 2 to 5 weeks, which means they need to get more in stock.
so if you were to extend the graphics card in this photo to the hdd cages the height would be the distance between the graphics card and the hdd cages right?

this is a google search of the computer that i own
http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/6/9/6902_07_lenovo-erazer-x315-gaming-desktop-pc-review.jpg
also i have amazon prime so it would be here in 2 days if i check the box to the right
actually i just checked my psu wattage and it is actually only 280 watts... how do i tell how much power my graphics card is using? so i can calculate the difference?

edit: nevermind my r9 360 is tdp 85 and the 1050ti is 75... so i should be good on my power supply for now right?

Also anyone have any good instructions on how to install a graphics card?
Just physically swap em, connect display to the new GPU, and install the drivers

1050Ti is a great budget card but the 1060 has a much better Passmark score and a much higher memory bandwidth and a higher clock speed. The only reason to consider a 1050Ti is for the lower thermal design power, it is a highly efficient card but overall, I would say the 1060 will be an excellent card for years at 1920x1080.

If you intend to add an ENB to Fallout 4, the 1060 will help greatly and should handle some of the more demanding ones including Vogue ENB.

yea but my budget is between $150 and $250 and with me having to get a new power supply because of getting the 1060 it wouldn't be in my budget... also i don't think the two fan ones will fit...
