- The best budget CPU available atm is the g4560 and it is similair in preformance to the 770k that is why we go $20 over budget. Otherwise you would be building a system with the same specs as the old one.
- Upgrade to 16gb RAM later if you plan on playing AAA games.
what about a new case?
is that cpu overclockable?
or should i just scratch getting a new cpu or motherboard and get a new gpu? i have been looking at the gtx 1060

Ps, technically the R9 360 is the main culprit strangling your PC.
You're so far out in left field, did you bother even looking at the specs of the r9 360 oem it's a big turd even a lot worse than the cruddy r7 370, hell even the archaic GTX285 1GB is better than an R9 360.
Ps, you can polish a turd but at the end of the day it's still a turd.
I'd say get rid of FM2 and go for LG1151/AM4.
TBH, even a mediocre GTX1050ti would put him miles ahead compared to what he's got.
It would depend on an individual game basis as to how much or if there would be a cpu bottle neck, GTA 5 / Fallout 4 are classic amd cpu chokers but most other games not so much besides that even with a bottleneck in gta 5 with a gtx1050ti he'd still be getting impressive fps compared to the r9 360.

General idea of what to expect ^.

Athlon vs i3 ^.
I strongly agree with upcoast.
I was trying to find a r9 360 vs 1050ti comparsion, watched this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5fWnNl2cP0
Then I realized it was vs the 370, but the 1050ti was much faster than the 370 and the 370 is faster than the 360....
So OP I would go with the GTX 1050ti, I believe you were planning on spending $150-$250 according to post #2.
This is one is 150$, there are other models over and under that price, but not by much, just an example.

1050ti should give a large peformance boost IF the game is not too CPU intensive.
Then I would save up your money and wait until you have enough for a new CPU, motherboard, RAM.
Yeah or a 1060 if you can afford one. Then upgrade everything else later.
