Laptop capped at 30fps when not plugged in
I got a Acer Predator laptop it runs For Honor 60 fps extreme quality when its plugged in but when its on battery no matter the game it is its stuck at 30 fps
Tried making my powerplan max preformace
Changed the NVIDIA setting to prefer max preformance

Some things I can think of:

- Set power plan to high preformance.
- Make sure no bloadware garbage is installed on the laptop that is doing that.
- Reinstall your Nvidia and Intel HD drivers because usually the laptop manufacturer will put crap custom drivers on it that limit preformance.
- Set both the Nvidia GPU and the Intel HD to high preformance.
- Make sure the laptop is actually using the Nvidia GPU and not the Intel HD.
- Make sure it isn't the game itself that is doing this check the options menu for a FPS locking when on battery setting.

Yes dump all Drivers from OS and redo those with the very latest ones to help ensure best features and overall performance.

Some laptops do that since they cant pull enough wattage from the battery to perform at 100%.

Be glad cus otherwise you'd be looking at 15 min on battery times prob.

It is one reason (no flaming) that I have use many Alienware over the years.
They have a battery that can output the same as the AC power adapter; so you can fully game at full performance while on Battery power.

Very few laptops offer this, even to this day.

Which model of Acer Predator laptop is this exactly?

That battery is very good; but yes it only gets roughly 45-50% overall performance when ran on Batter power

The Acer is about 5 % slower than the Asus G752VS, but Asus actually overclocks the GPU even further. According to the Fire Strike portion of the newest 3DMark, the Predator 17 is slower by about 6 %, which can likely be attributed to the way Acer manages the clock speeds. With the notebook running on battery power, the 3DMark 11 score dropped from 15153 to 7037 points.

During the practically relevant WLAN test with the display set to medium, the Predator lasted only 200 minutes - last in our comparison. Thanks to automatic graphics switching, the Alienware 17 R3 – with a slightly weaker GPU and a marginally higher-capacity battery – lasted significantly longer and shut down after 7.5 hours. Mobile gaming of course means a significant reduction in performance, but if the user should be so inclined, we expect the notebook to last around 1.5 hours, similar to the competition.

Thats pretty much the norm though for high end laptops. Pretty sure an alienware would also do it since theres a max size they can all put in laptops.

You can set most to go over 30 fps but your battery life will suffer and still wont get same performance as plugged in where they can draw max wattage.

Read that site; the do go into details about the Alienware 17 variants of around the same release date as that Acer; the Alienware 17 in comparison was completely hands down superb at delivering full performance while on battery; while allowing MANY hours of run-time on that battery as well; while in comparison, the Acer Pred 17 only averages around 200 minutes on battery; and that is even at half system performance. This is why the 3DMark scores were cut in half while on Battery that Acer.

Did we read the same link? Cus the alienware lasted 5 min longer under load in the one i read. Like they have the same size battery only alienware leaves the integrated chip enabled to get a longer idle/low use while on battery.

Most ppl, me included dont care about battery gaming performance not being over 30fps, especially with gsync to make it buttery smooth even at the low framerate. Im not gaming with it not plugged in for extended periods lol.

Well what I was going to suggest here, given the laptop in question is
ensure games have VSync = Off

In NVIDIA CP, enable GSync

But yes, dump whatever ACER gave you for Drivers and get the latest from the Chipset Makers; Intel, NVIDIA, Realtek, etc...

Overall, you just can't expect full performance or long battery runtime when gaming on battery.
You can however do that, so at least it is an option on such Laptops.

Your battery is maybe not strong enough to give high power to videocard and cpu.
I has a same problem.

I think did not try the NVIDIA GSync as well, that may help.
bigbenisdaman Apr 17, 2017 @ 8:40am
Oh yea, forgot to mention how to increase this. Go to Geforce experiance and under settings/game just disable the battery boost. You still going to get decreased performance and alot lower battery runtime doing this though.
Bad 💀 Motha Apr 17, 2017 @ 8:53am
^ Yes; battery boost is more for better battery runtime, at the cost of running the GPU in the lower 2D clocks for the most part. More for when you want the most of the battery runtime for non-Gaming; such as movies on the go, etc.
