GT 940mx

Hello guys.

Idk if this belongs to this thread but i will ask anyways.

So i bought a Laptop with a GT 940 mx 1gb DDR5 and a i5 7200 and 16 GB of Ram and my Question is: can i play some of the "newer" Games on it like Overwatch, BO3, Doom and others?
i watched some videos and it says that i could play those games on low settings but at the site "can my pc tun this game" it says that i couldnt so who should i believe?

You'll be able to run the basic new games such as Overwatch on low settings but anything more advanced will NOT run on this system as the 940MX is simply too weak. If you want to play more graphical games you should throw your current laptop in the garbage and look at buying a gaming laptop with at least a GTX 1060 6GB or build a gaming PC with decent parts.

New Laptop?

Best bet then is download latest Win10 64bit (to usb flash drive) and wipe the system clean.
Then install OS fresh, do updates, and get all latest Drivers.

Helps quite a bit.

The problem is i got it as a present. And sadly i dont have enough money for a new one:(

No, many of the newer graphical fidelity games from around 2015 onward would need at least 2-3GB of VRAM from GPU; even for 720p

Once your Laptop is below a Steam Deck, yea it's going to run most games.

Laptops that had below a GTX 970 or 980 were fairly terrible at best.

You'd have to stick to old games like HL2, TF2 and perhaps Indie top-down games; like Stardew Valley for example.

This is the sort of thing you need to research before you buy a laptop. What're you going to do if it doesn't? Selling the laptop for the same price means you lose on shipping and taxes, and that is assuming you can manage to do it.

In terms of G.P.U. power, a laptop with Vega 8 integrated graphics would've been better[www.notebookcheck.net], and would've hit the mark Overwatch 2 is requesting, which is a GTX 600 series card.

The 940m is than the GTX 660m or the GTX 650, which are the weakest GTX 600 series G.P.Us. listed by overwatch 2. Weaker by about 15%. Overwatch is free, so I see little reason not to try out the laptop with it now that you already own it though.

However, you have to keep in mind that these popular free multiplayer e-sports titles are targeting especially low specs. to get as many players as possible. I don't have my hopes up for Black Ops. 3 or Doom 2016 at all though. If we assume desktop variants, the G.P.Us. listed by those games are much more powerful than a 940MX.
