Clean PC without compressed air

Hello, my idiot friend broke his pc after forcing out his CPU cooler and its not working anymore. Im gonna give him my old pc but the motherboard has a lot of dust ( hopefully it didnt damaged the MB, anyways... Any good way to clean the dust without using compressed air?

Just use the vacuum cleaner its not the safest way of cleaning you pc but it works. Or pick up a can of air at a hardware store.

I dont want to sound like a ♥♥♥♥ but since im giving him a free pc i would really want to pay for the materials as well, i ahve some thermal paste and i can use that to replace the old on on the cpu but thats it. Also the pc is kinda a surprise and i dont want him to know about it. I told him just to give me his ram, video card and power supply telling him that i needed them to test something out. I've heard it could work with a straw, what do you think?

while "brushing" use a vacuum cleaner hose (with a special nozzle and its power turned down) and carefully suck off the dust without touching any MB components with the nozzle).

Use a brush, not metallic, preferably horse-hair bristles (plastic ones will scratch).
A few cheap un-used paint brushes of various sizes always come in handy for this.

well, i wouldn't consider a metallic brush "soft" - but maybe that's just me

on the other side you're right: be careful with tips on the interwebz

I mean how alot of brushes have metal on various parts of it. Best to avoid those so as not to touch various parts in your PC with that as you are brushing away the dust so it can be vacuumed up, etc.

Then best bet is cover that metal area, which you can easily do with Duct Tape or Electrical Tape.

if your cleaning your PC it should be off and totally unplugged an not on carpet

static electricty sux on a mainboard

an yea a vacuum cleaner hose with the plastic brush end will work ..but your better off finding a freind who owns an air compressor that has no oil in the air lines to blow it out

if ya do make sure the air lines have ZERO oil in them ..did that once a few yrs back @ work .. and found out my air line had been used for air tools that required oil ..totalled my mainboard

but my computer got lubed :lol
