Will a Ryzen 1600 be a good upgrade from a...
i5 4570?

From what i understand the single thread performance seems similar so in gaming i wont see a boost?

On CPU benchmarks it even shows the i5 4570 as faster than the R5 1600 https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

But then on other websites it says the 1600 is faster and more stable. So...advice?

Arent the chips out now haha, there doesnt seem to be a lot of advice for the 1600 chips. Just 1500X and 1600X
It'll be a boost in both production and gaming. You can always OC it to increase its single threaded performance.
It depends on your entire system. What you need to do is install msi afterburner and look at the % loads on cpu and gpu.

The performance of most pc's is limited by the graphics card. If your graphics card is running at 100%, updating the cpu is pointless.

So that's the first step.

Another consideration is cost. Ryzen or Kabylake = new cpu, new memory, new motherboard. Cost is likely to be greater than just buying a new cpu for your existing motherboard.

In your case the choice is probably either buying an i7-4790K (much the same performance as the i7-7700K) or buying a ryzen combo of better performance than your i5.

But without a good graphics card there is no point.

Thanks for the advice! I am looking to upgrade my mobo too which is why i dont mind looking at the Ryzen 5 as an upgrade!

I use a GTX 1060 so the CPU is often what is hitting 100% load most of the time. Which i think is bottlenecking my system.
wait for more reviews from reputable tech/gaming websites...
The thing you need to know is that the high end Ryzen (1600X and 1800X for their class) are actually not very good overclock material. Usually the mid tier (1600 and 1700X) are much better purchase as they end up overclocked almost the same as high end.
no good,if you have 4th gene i5 ,maybe you buy used i7 4790k morecheap in upgrade

Another review for ya ^.

And yes an i7 4790k 4ghz 4c/8t is a logical drop in upgrade. From what I've seen in reviews from strictly gaming the i7 4790k is still a strong cpu, however if workload is needed then the 1600x is the better choice.
The i7-4790k is the easiest upgrade and will offer the best gaming performance. The advantage with the 1600 is that you will do better in productivity and give yourself an upgrade path with access to newer features like DDR4 and NVME (was that around during the 4790 era? I forget). Both options will be great upgrades and will work well for the next few years.
i can play planetsid2, encode my dvd with handbrake at 50 fps, run another program, amd watch a movie on another tv with ryzen 1700

But you want the absolute best fps in one game you want intel

Nah, even if it is slightly better, its not worth it. Wait a year or so for the next generation of ryzen. They might do it the same way as intel, and start releasing a new one every year.

The first generation is understandably not very good.

I wouldn't make a significant investment for a slightly better performance improvement.
