GTX 770 vs GTX 1050ti[www.hwcompare.com]
and it beats the RX 570 on a lot of fronts to:
RX 570 vs GTX 770[www.game-debate.com]
Only the VRAM on my current card is the limiting factor. If I saw the 4GB version going cheap, I'd prefer that any day.
But back to my main question:
Can a 4GB R9 270x actually max out the textures on today's VRAM hungry games @1080p?
And the RX 570 (470) is quite a lot more powerfull than the 270x and it's also cheaper (asuming you buy the GPU new ofc).

The R9 280x 3GB plays JC3 and GTA 5 quite well high settings at 1080p, also the 280x has a mem bus of 384bit vs the 270x 256bit.

A recent game and where the GTX770, 280x, 270x sit.
Ps, in general the gtx770 and 280x are getting a bit dated in some new games but still viable cards for budget used cards http://www.techspot.com/review/1235-deus-ex-mankind-divided-benchmarks/page2.html
If you gonna actually upgrade; then you want nothing less than NVIDIA 1060 6GB
or 580 8GB (new from AMD coming very soon)
I actually had a 2GB R9 270 before and it wasn't that bad compared to the GTX 770 that I have now. I was actually a bit dissapointed when I swapped it for the GTX 770 because I really didn't notice that much of a performance gain. Maybe my old FX 6300 processor is holding me back!
As long as you stay at 1080p in non CPU intensive games you should be fine I think. But yea it might be worth it to upgrade.
Overall, why buy any GPU that is many gens behind. That puts you way back and won't put you any closer to running todays games well.
Yeah, and keep the textures down until I get a decent 4GB card!
@BMGaming
It's a pity Nvidia and AMD don't research gaming trends more and future proof their cards for 10 years or more. Now we need a new card every two years. I suppose they'd be putting themselves out of business if they did that!
Overall, what is the rest of your specs in full?
Perhaps it's lacking in other areas too.
8 gigs DDR3 RAM 1600Mhz
AMD FX-6300 CPU
550W Corsair PSU
Like I said, sure, the GTX 770 is fine in terms of raw performance @ 1080p, but I can't max out textures in the latest games thanks to only 2GB of VRAM. Hence the original post.
EDIT:
Just out of curiosity now, I wonder if anyone out there is playing titles such as Batrman AK or GTA V @1080p on a 4GB R9 270x and is able to max out the textures without getting performance drops. I know of course they're not going to be getting 60fps, maybe 40fps, 'cause that's what I was getting with my 2GB r9 270 (medium textures, high everything else).
See alot of folks can't seem to want to spend $250+ on a GPU, the problem is, you are actually wasting more by doing it a cheaper route.
How much was that GTX 770 when new? Take what that $ amount was, and apply that to what kind of GPU does that get you today. That's how you need to look at it.
GTX 770 to RX 270X is not an upgrade, IDK how you look at it. Look at the performance between these two and you'll see what I mean. It would be a waste of money to move over to a 270X
If you can't spend say $250+ then look at a AMD 480 4GB or 8GB; either of which can be found for around $200 or less
