sli PCIe x16/x16 vs x8/x8 gtx 1080ti
Hello,
My motherboard has only sli with x8/x8 and i will have SLI gtx 1080ti.
Is there a real difference with x16/x16 ?

Do i need to upgrade with new motherboard sli x16/x16 ?

I have bought a 40" 4k pc monitor, and to play ultra with AA, i need SLI cause only one gtx 1080ti Is not enough

Sell the ti, buy a Titan Xp ??? Possibly better than buying a new mobo and another ti. Or wait for vega. There is no guarantee that sli will improve performance.

Current generation GPU hasn't quite hit the PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwidth limit yet so you're good. Maybe the Volta cards will come with PCIe 4.0 anyway.

It will run in either 16/16 or 8/8 depending on how many PCI lanes your CPU has.

Ok thanks all.
I will post you all framrates with sli gtx 1080ti.

And i wont buy titan xp !

For 500€ more and 10% better for titan Xp.
Sli is maybe 30% performance more for 900€.

6700k and 7700k both have 16 PCI lanes if you run SLI both cards will run at 8x.

Thank you.

I would definitely recommend 28 lanes if you plan to run a 1080Ti SLI. 8x will cause a performance impact in certain games due to the bandwidth bottleneck as shown in this video. Many people commenting above are not taking into account the SLI configuration which is a different matter entirely.

Or no performance boost at all. SLI is a very driver-game related feature. If you ask me, I would save the money to buy Nvidia or AMD next gen update.

and no thanks for amd, nvidia is in the way i like.

in game i play, SLI is very usefull.....it will help me to have constant 60fps in 4k ultra.
and at this level of graphics, it's just amazing, all is just so beautifull and smooth !!!
