Does motherboard matter?
Does motherboard matter?
Hi, so recently i got my first gaming PC and its doing webb so far.
However, the motherboard seem to be quite hot at times, idle is bout 70* and in game running Rainbow Seige it goes up to top 105*. i do only have 1 intake fan tho xD
Other parts runs well and has a goood temp.

Should i swap out the motherboard or just add more fans?

My motherboard is a normal green ugly one from Dell.

Simple Specs (in case)

Corsair Air 240 Cube Case
GTX 950 ASUS mini
8 GB Ram

Are you sure those are mobo temps and not CPU or GPU? It is fine if a mobo gets up to 70c but when it reaches 80c you should really worry. Move the fan from the front to the back of the case and see if that improves it. Also you did not remove any heatsinks from the mobo did you (if it has any ofc)?

Leave the front intake in and get the 2 x 80mm exhaust fans for the rear if that ^ is the case you have or put the rear top 120mm to exhaust.

i looked into that but i dont see how i can install more fans, from seeing where the fan is connected to right now on the motherboard.

I think you will need a new mobo. But you could try putting you fan in the back of the case to get the hot air out.

The temperature sensor is probably faulty. It's virtually impossible for anything on a motherboard to get that hot. If there are any heatsinks on the board, make sure they are attached to the components. If that checks out, you can try a BIOS update. I wouldn't recommend spending any money on replacement parts for this old system. If the the only problem is the temp readout, just keep using it until you're ready to upgrade. And yes, the quality of the motherboard, as well as every other component in a PC, matters.

Yes it might be a faulty sensor.

If you do want more than one fan there are molex to fan adapters or basic fan controllers.
