They are more expensive that Hard drives per GB.
For gaming the optimum is a ssd for a boot drive. Possibly one for games.
Another option is SSD caching a hard drive (not for the OS) for most other storage.
Look at this Comparision YouTube Video: LINK
If you are thinking about to buy one, choose this one: Samsung 850 EVO[amzn.to]
250 GB for OS's + 500 GB for games.
Plus a Seagate SSHD with 8 GB cache for video streaming, storage, etc.
Why wait 60 seconds for something to load when you can wait just 10 seconds!?
I use my PC for more than gaming.
I use primo cache as caching software.
The first is a boot drive that is cached using 8 GB of main memory (out of 32 GB). It works better than windows caching. The swap file and hibernation are tunred off saving a lot of space on the boot SSD.
The two other SSDs are in a software raid 0 config. They are used to cache a 2TB drive for games (read only). Load times are fast for games. So its about 110 GB cache for the gaming drive - about 1 GB/s read speed optimum.
Using the old SSDs & paying for the sotware, it was much cheaper that big capacity SSDs. The performace is comprable to using the musch more expensive but faster PCi express ones.
And generally the entire system is more responsive and quicker. Also speeds up game loading times but most ppl cannot afford to keep games on ssd's. I myself have 2TB and 1TB SSD's dedicated entirely to steam.
Seriouslee homie g funk. You would think you had upgraded your whole pc to something better. Especially if you never used an ssd before.
It really does make a difference, iTz Bullz i. This is one of those things where you do not need any benchmarks to make sure you upgraded to something better. You WILL feel the difference with an SSD. How we lived in a world when ssd's did not exist? I have no idea.
I have 4 hard drives, 2ssd and 2hdd. One ssd is for games since you also cut load times gaming on an ssd is pure bliss.
I remember the days of morrowind on the first xbox with load times into the minutes, I built a pillow house after looting all the pillows in the game and had tons of armor and loot just laying around my regular house, the days of fog and limited distance rendering.
At least get a 240ish GB for your OS.
