Can my power supply handle this graphics card with an adapter?

Hi, my system is:

i5 2500k
radeon 6850 hd
8gb ram
OCZ500SXS2 power supply

I want to upgrade my graphics card to a radeon 7950, but my power supply only has one 6 pin connection( I think? )and the card needs 2, but the power output is strong enough to support the recommended power supply for the 7950 card ( which is 500W like my power supply) , So I'm wondering if an adapter would be alright to use? Because I don't really want to spend more money on a new power supply, thank you.

radeon 7950 is OLD. upgrade to a RX 460 or RX 470 instead. And get another 8gb of ram. And look around if you can buy a used i7 3770k.

Doesn't answer my question. I don't game enough to spend more money on a card + PSU

rx 460 is only $20 more expensive than a used 7950 and will deliver 10x the preformance also it uses less power than a 7950 so you don't have to upgrade the PSU. The 7950 also needs two 6 pin PCI-e powerconnector so your PSU will need 2 of those.

Yeah it only has one, but there are adaptors that split it, but from what I read that sometimes isn't recommended

Using PCI-e splitters is a terable idea the card will not get enough power if you use things like that which could result in all kind of glitches and artefacts maybe even crashes when the GPU is under stress.

Using PCI-e splitters is a terable idea the card will not get enough power if you use things like that which could result in all kind of glitches and artefacts maybe even crashes when the GPU is under stress.

The thing is its more than capable to supply power to it, as my whole PC with the 7950 doesn't even take 400W, would it still be such a bad idea?

Instead of using a 6pin to 2x 6pin splitter you should use a 2x molex to 1x PCI-e 6pin adapter. Then you should be fine.

Specs write your PSU has 2 18A 12V rails. So it should handle the card with either splitter on a single rail or better yet using adapter on the second rail from a sata or whatever connector on that.

While as others said, the 7950 is bad idea unless you have it as a gift.

The HD7950 is much better than the Rx460, The R9 280 is a refit HD7950.

The psu is a bad quality OCZ and at 500w it's just not enough to run an HD7950 190ish watts safely. You can use molex to pci-e adapters but again I wouldn't use a 500w on that card I'd suggest at least 600w-650w good quality psu.

If you're looking to buy new the gtx1050ti is low 75 watt power draw and about par with gtx960/r9 280 perfomance wise.

Ps, the RX460 is low end crap avoid it.

Both rx 460 and 1050 don't use extra power connectors but the 1050 is more expensive.

But the AMD specifications for the 7950 recommend a 500W PSU, so do you really think my PSU couldnt handle it with an adapter?
