Worth it to upgrade from GTX 980 to GTX 1070?
Title says it.

Not really, that's really not a big step up in performance. The only upgrades I would consider are the GTX1080 and GTX1080Ti. Anything else would be a minor upgrade at best, and not worth the money.

It will give you around 30% performance boost..see here

And cost $400+ - not really a good price/performance ratio.

I'd just hold off and wait for Nvidia Volta, your 980 should still be running new releases just fine.

Not a big enough bump for the money, for 1080p the GTX980 is still fine and about equal to a GTX1060 6GB so you'd only be bumping up one level going to a GTX1070 which is around the gtx980ti.

no, you should upgrade to gtx 1080 or gtx 1080ti

^^ anything less wouldn't really be an upgrade, just newer and slightly shinier.

depends on the rest of your system as well
DaHotFuzz Mar 23, 2017 @ 6:09pm
Definitely not. At 1080p the 980 runs everything I throw at it with almost no sweat. Should be a similar case for you.

Ok, so I'm just going to keep the GTX 980 until I really need an upgrade.

Not at all, only if you buy gtx 1080 or higher

If you're playing at 1920x1080 resolution, you don't need to upgrade the GPU at all as long as you keep that resolution. The higher resolutions need a GPU better than a 980/1070.

Yeah, but no single GPU can run that game on the ultra preset at 1080p without dips. Even the 1080Ti and Titan X drop below the 60 FPS threshold at times.

The only way to not dip below 60 would be to accept that PC games have graphical settings for a reason, or go with SLI and accept the woes that it brings too.

10\10 no, if u have like 4VRAM=u need to be happy (u can run all the new games lol)
(only little fps drops maybe :D)

4GB VRAM isnt enough for a number of games anymore

So it varies on a game by game and graphic setting basis
