Freesync + Rx 480 8gb or gtx 1060?
I'm upgrading from a gtx 960 and I'm having trouble deciding which of the 2 cards would be best. I've never used freesync so don't really know much about the benefits. From what I've been seeing the gtx 1060 performs a little better than the rx 480 but comes at a cost.

Both cards will perform on par with each other the1060 has a slight advantige over the480 in ultra settings.since bother are about the same price the1060 is a better choice. But the freesync won't work with a 1060. A gsync monitor will but they are quit a bit more money than a freesync monitor. Both look very close in comparison. that is not to say that a freesync won't work at all on a 1060 because it will you just won't get the freesync capabilities

This guy is wrong. The 480 outperforms the 1060 by a small margin on all settings right now, while still being cheaper. While the faster RAM 1060 may change things, it'll be more expensive.

No it's not your updated reviews on RX480 show 1060 outperform RX 480 on Dx11 and the opposite on Dx12. However NVIDIA just released a new driver that improves Dx12 performance. Keep in mind the AMD favoured game like Hitman and Deus Ex see large performance increase this driver for NVIDIA. By now they are probably the same.

It's slightly faster in DX12 and much faster in Vulkan, while being a hit-or-miss in DX11.
It's also usually around $20 cheaper AND he's buying a Freesync monitor. AMD is releasing drivers too, which keeps them ahead.

The 480 is the better deal.

And it's hotter and will do bad on NVIDIA favoured game just like Pascal cards do bad on AMD favoured game. GTX 1060 will also see an increase in GDDR5 speed within a few weeks (new models only). Better wait and see or fork out a bit more for GTX 1070 which gives a lot of improvement and really no competition from AMD until Vega.

The problem with the GDDR5 1060's will be the price. They will be more expensive, which could potentially move them out of the mid-range price bracket.

You're right about the 1070, but he's looking for a mid-range card with Freesync support.

Oh but you don't know if NVIDIA will raise the price or not. If anything NVIDIA will be reducing price to price out AMD before Vega drop, hence GTX 1080Ti has been priced VERY competitive. They are smarter than Intel wait and see attitude against Ryzen.

Faster, higher-end RAM = Higher price.

It's not possible to price it lower than the GDDR4 variant unless they cut something else. I expect it to be priced between the 1060 and the 1070 as a "Middle-of-the-road" kinda thing, kinda like the 1050 ti or the 1080 nowadays.
Dude, current Pascal budget use GDDR5 not GDDR4. They CAN price it lower.
they are litterally the same thing, but the RX480 runs better on vulcan and DX12 games, so if you play those, thats your choice.
thanks for the info guys, im leaning towards rx 480 just trying to decide which version.
i have 2 of these[www.newegg.com] and they work very nicely and cool.

:qr:
Yeah been looking at that one and the sapphire nitro+
