The only real problem ppl run into is if the psu is utter crap but if you've got a good quality 400w or more psu you're good to go.

List all the hardware specs and OS you are currently using; and then what you plan to upgrade; as that would be more helpful; things like CPU, PSU or a small Case might hold you back from fully installing or enjoying your new GPU.

You also need to not being using any VGA connection, that is no longer supported.

I currently have a gtx 970, i5 4440, corsair cx 600 and windows 8.1

1060 is not high enough GPU to make switching worth it.

What are you doing that the current hardware is not enough?

If anything, its the CPU that is lacking.

And I would just do clean install of Win10 64bit, knock that out the way.

gaming

Judging by your games list, you don't really have alot of demanding games that would need something like i7 + 1070

Not really much point to go from 970 to 1060

So should I upgrade anything??

Yes, your card will run on any PCI Express 3.0 x16 which your motherboard has. The 1060 will even run on a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot at full load.

I would recommend upgrading to a 1070 in this case, the i5-4400 will be fine with a 1070. If you are playing more CPU-intensive games as such as Arma 3, Cities: Skyline or Total War, it could be a limiting factor but from the type of games you play, I think a 1070 would be a reasonable upgrade.

I would also recommend upgrading to a 2560x1440 144hz monitor with G-Sync if possible to make the most of the 1070.

yeah but I have heard that the gtx 1070 is a heavy card
can my motherboard handle it

I thought this benchmark might be helpful for you as well, the game is achieving a solid 60 FPS with 8x MSAA and Very High at 1920x1080 resolution with an i5-4460 and a 980Ti which is very similar in performance to the 1070.

I don't have an i5 4460 I have an i5 4440 and I meant the card weighs a lot
