My thoughts exactly. Is g-sync worth the extra 200 dollars? I'm very happy with the monitor I have due to its price, it looks fantastic and is 1440p 144hz 27 inches. The only downside is its freesync, however I just didnt think g-sync was worth the extra 200 personally, but I haven't actually experienced it.
No gsync and 144 hz is NOT worth the 200 dollars/euros. NOT AT ALL!I am also very happy with my monitor that is 1440p 60 hz 24 inches. I paid only 300 euros for it(DELLP2416D) I didnt bought the 27 144hz because it costs 500 euros and i thought it wasnt worth the price foe what it ofders compared to the 300 euros 24 1440p 60 hz monitors. That why i advice him/her to get DELLP2416D for 300 euros instead of waisting money for just+ 3'' more and 144hz even if he dont want to get a 4k monitor. Also while most games dont run 60 fps on my 970 they are still fully playble o max settings even fi some of them run at about 40 or 30 fps and i have this monitor since June 2016. A 1080 ti will run all games at max settings 1440p 60 fps and 4k 60 fps most of them. But it will be able for many many years to run at 4k max settings even if not all of them run at 60 fps so in my opinion it is better to get 4k with 1080 ti than 1440p.
In my experience, I prefer to have high frame rate as a priority. I also don't see a huge difference between 1440p and 4K at standard desktop screen sizes. I do, however, enjoy the extra pixel count of 4K with larger screens (like televisions or larger monitors).
4K is harder to run, even having the 1080 Ti struggle on many games. I just don't believe that 4K is truly ready right now. Not only do we have to have the hardware, but we also have to have the developer have 4K in mind... Many people forget about the development side of things.
So, yeah, in my opinion, I'd recommend keeping the 1440p/144hz monitor. Unless you want to pony up a bit more and get 165hz and/or Gsync.
Gsync is a pretty nice technology. Works as designed and does it well. Allows for variable frame rate, no tearing, and less visual input latency than traditional vsync.
People looking for 120 FPS. A week playing at 120 FPS and you'd find it hard to go back to 60.
