The main reason being, if a BIOS update resolves specific issues.
So it depends on what that BIOS update actually does.
And no, a BIOS update will not erase anything
as long as nothing wrong happens during the update anyway.
Yea redo the OS and Drivers.
And enable the XMP Profile in your BIOS for your RAM.
Disable all the junk in Win10.
Monitor CPU/GPU Temps.
Using the MSI H110m Gaming motherboard if that helps. I'll look at their website to see what the update notes look like and I'll see if it will resolve my issues.
When is the last time you wiped the OS drive and clean installed the OS?
To translate into Layman's terms...
> Shut your PC down. Press the start button and then mash the Delete key like some kind of lunatic. This will open the BIOS screen. Navigate through BIOS to find the XMP profiles, enable them.
> Find your Windows install DVD or USB, and re-install Windows itself. This will solve the majority of freezing programs, updating problems and more.
> Once you've freshly installed Windows, go through the full list of Drivers and Update them to the newest versions. My PC runs flawlessly, mostly because it's kept clean and has the newest driver versions for absolutely everything.
> Make sure you have a way of monitory the internal temperatures of your PC. If it gets to hot, it can cause programs to freeze. I recommend HW Monitor from CPUID, or Realtemp GT. Both are freely available and both do a great job. Just Google them, they'll be the first links to pop up.
> And finally disable all the junk systems you get. I recommend running PC Decrapifier(another free app) and manually getting rid of stupid things like Cortana. She's a lovable chartacter in Halo, but a damned menace on your computer.
Win10 changes the entire OS every few months; so a clean install is best if you are having major issues.
That has nothing to do with your OS, Drives, Data.
BIOS Updates will usually mean that all those settings go back to defaults again.
That's pretty much it.
That will delete absolutely everything. You WILL have to reinstall absolutely everything from scratch.
Ugh, is there a better option? I have so much on here that i'll lose.
Clean installing the OS WILL delete everything
ONLY Updating the BIOS will not delete everything
^ If you redo the OS, yes. But again, that only occurs if you take the time to force-delete your drive/partitions. This never happens in a automatic way. An OS can be reinstalled without wiping the Drive. You simply reinstall the OS and don't delete the data on the drive, it's that simple.
