My 360 controller did that, I'd be playing, move the cable just right and it would cut out in game and switch to Player2. If I unplugged it for like 5-10 secs, then plugged it back in, Player1 came back again. It was a faulty wire in the cable.
USB cables are usually thin on most devices, any serious bend or crimp and you crack the wires inside; or at least maybe crimp a wire, result in a bad connection when moved just right.
well my headphones wires are VERY twisted so i will straighten them and give it another go.
You are typically describing a fault in the cabling and this is common with gaming headsets as the cabling is lower quality. I recommend a good pair of studio headphones and DAC, they will provide much more durability and offer a better audio experience overall.
Its another reason to not buy cheap headsets; buy better ones with thick gauge cables that pretty much won't bind up.
