Does a D-sub to HDMI cord cause delay?
My current monitor uses a D-sub cable and I really don't want to replace it after I buy a new GPU that doesn't support D-Sub. If i buy a D-sub to hdmi cord would it worsen the quality or do anything noticeable? Or would it not show any difference?

DSUB is obsolete for a very good reason. If your monitor is so old that it uses DSub connectors, it needs to be replaced with something built within this century. Something with a Displayport or HDMI2 connector.

There's no point buying a new GPU and then playing on an early 1990s monitor.

With respect, it's an old monitor. Whether you recently bought it or not doesn't make it new, the fact it uses an obsolete cable system identifies it as old and obsolete.

Get the model number of the monitor and post it. Also, what video card are you purchasing.?

if you absolutely want to keep that monitor, either stick with current GPU or but a last-year one (i.e gtx 9?0), those still have DVI-I that can drive a vga input.

But monitors that has only analog in, no digital are hardly worth bothering with these days IMNSHO. Pass it to someone with an old config.
Start by posting the model of Monitor you have;
and also the new GPU you were planning to get.
You can't do HDMI to VGA anyways; not with just a cable.
