Will a Z170 Motherboard be compatible with a GTX 1070 and an i7 7700k?
Looking to upgrade, wondering if I need a new motherboard too :OhNoBlue:

Of course, but you will need to update the board to latest BIOS on first boot up.
What Motherboard is it? So we can be sure it works with KabyLake (7th Gen CPUs)

ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI... ???

All the info is printed in bold white letters right on the Motherboard itself.

Apologies, wasn't sure what you meant. It's an ASUS

So you already have the board?

So is that already a working system with a 6th Gen CPU?

Or just happen to have the board, but never used it yet?

You should buy a Z270 mobo as they are designed for Kaby Lake i7-7700k (unless you have a z170 then don't).

If you have a Z170 already, afaik some ASUS boards can be flashed (bios updated) without installing the cpu. Or with the old cpu when booted. Refer to the manual.

Yeah I already have the board in my current PC and I was looking to upgrade my GPU and CPU, I had heard that motherboards can sometimes not be compatible with newer GPU's and CPU's so I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard too

It is a 6th Gen LGA-1151, there is no such issues.
Update the BIOS to latest first, then pop in a 7th Gen CPU
(look at the Motherboard Support page)

And any GPU of choice. Provided your PowerSupply can handle it, and that the new GPU will physically fit inside your Case.

Such limits are more on aged Pre-Builds; like junk from Dell, HP, etc.

Please tell us the Motherboard Model & BIOS Version (look in CPU-Z app)
So we can be sure of this.

Awesome, thanks man

Here is CPU-Z, it tell you basics of Motherboard and RAM, but greater detail then most.

What is your Mainboard Model and Bios Version?

What CPU do you have currently, Canis?

If it's a 6700/6700K I wouldn't bother upgrading, the 7700K is effectively a 6700K with some slight fine-tuning. You could easily match it with a 6th gen CPU for the price of a good CPU cooler.

If you have anything less than that, I'd just update the BIOS of your current board. There's absolutely no reason to fit an entire new board.

the boards are better than the CPU honestly not much has improved regarding CPU's since the Ivy Bridge (AMD Ryzen) however the benefits of a Z170 board M2 SATA,faster chipset. DDR4 ram (big performance gain) USB 3.0 Bluetooth make it a worthwhile upgrade, don't waste your money on an I7 unless you do video editing or you can pick it up cheap,Gigabyte and Asus have some great gaming boards, the 1070 is an awesome card now it finally has some decent drivers

All you need is a well rounded B150M or B250M board anyways unless you OC or need a ton of ports.

Such as:

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/QXdFf7/asrock-b250m-pro4-micro-atx-lga1151-motherboard-b250m-pro4

You can still use a K model CPU on them though.
