What Motherboard is it? So we can be sure it works with KabyLake (7th Gen CPUs)
I kept the box and it says Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard
All the info is printed in bold white letters right on the Motherboard itself.
Apologies, wasn't sure what you meant. It's an ASUS
So is that already a working system with a 6th Gen CPU?
Or just happen to have the board, but never used it yet?
If you have a Z170 already, afaik some ASUS boards can be flashed (bios updated) without installing the cpu. Or with the old cpu when booted. Refer to the manual.
Yeah I already have the board in my current PC and I was looking to upgrade my GPU and CPU, I had heard that motherboards can sometimes not be compatible with newer GPU's and CPU's so I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard too
Update the BIOS to latest first, then pop in a 7th Gen CPU
(look at the Motherboard Support page)
And any GPU of choice. Provided your PowerSupply can handle it, and that the new GPU will physically fit inside your Case.
Such limits are more on aged Pre-Builds; like junk from Dell, HP, etc.
Please tell us the Motherboard Model & BIOS Version (look in CPU-Z app)
So we can be sure of this.
Awesome, thanks man

What is your Mainboard Model and Bios Version?
If it's a 6700/6700K I wouldn't bother upgrading, the 7700K is effectively a 6700K with some slight fine-tuning. You could easily match it with a 6th gen CPU for the price of a good CPU cooler.
If you have anything less than that, I'd just update the BIOS of your current board. There's absolutely no reason to fit an entire new board.

You can still use a K model CPU on them though.
