Samsung migration software
i have to replace my failing Intel drive, looking at the Samsung 850 500G EVO Series does this clone software reproduce the boot sector ? i don't want to spend 50$ on a USB to SATA cable if it doesn't....also my PC runs 24/7 are the NAS drives worth it ? just i've had 2 WD Black drives fail

Yes Clone softwares always do; they make an exact copy; thats what "CLONE" means.
It's just just copying files.

SATA-to-USB is like a $5 - $10 cable; which you never even need anyways.

You have Desktop with many internal sata ports, yes? Then that is all you need.
Plug into the new SSD, go into BIOS and ensure current OS drive is still the default boot drive; then enter that OS on the current/old drive, install the Migration software from Samsung's website and do your clone from old SSD to Samsung SSD.

You probably just had faulty drives to begin with, it happens.
I've have over 12 WD Blacks in my home and at work; many of them are MANY years old and have yet to fail; and we're always hot-plugging them via SATA as well. So it's just luck of the draw I guess.

How old are your WD Blacks? Go to here to check their warranty status.

Sounds like you having many if not all of your Drives having issues; I'd be looking towards the SATA Cables and/or Motherboard for the root of this issue. It's one thing to have a failing drive, but MANY around the same time? That makes me thing something else is the true problem here, like the Motherboard.

my blacks were only a few months old, honestly the cost of RTB ing them was as much as a new drive, the motherboard is a Asus Maximus Ranger Z170,since i went blue drives i've had no problems, but i need more space....however my Intel drive under speed tests is pretty bad, read write etc, down under that cable costs 50$ as i don't want to reinstall W7 due to it taking a day to update,so it sounds like the Samsung drive is the way to go,thx
run Drive Diagnostics instead. It should pass all those tests and it's health should be in good standing; if so, then the drive should be fine.

Given the fact that it seems like that PC has been running old stuff for a long time; best bet when you get your new Samsung SSD, do a clean install of Win10 64bit instead. Makes no sense to still do clean installs of those old legacy OS.
