Will a GTX 1050ti bottleneck a Core i7 6700?

To be honest if you have an i7 6700 you should be looking at the 1060 6GB, RX 480 8GB or GTX 1070 8GB.

The i7 6700 works with more powerful graphics cards yes.

At high resolution and high settings in a new game any graphics card will be the bottleneck so it kinda depends on what you want though ..

I wouldn't get a 1050Ti for a i7 6700 though because you deserve better.
Get the best you feel you can afford / what have the performance you are happy with. If you are happy with the performance of the 1050Ti of course you can choose to use that with your processor but you have a good processor and it would be a somewhat budget graphics card.

ONLY if you have 1 graphics card. If you have two, the 6700 only has 16 pcie lanes, the GPU as it is is using 16 of the lanes

2x GPUs in SLI will only use 16 lanes total since the PCIE speed drops to X8 when using 2
So it's fine. Yea now if you want to do 2-way SLI + M.2 SSD in PCIE Mode or do an actual PCIE SSD; that's gonna be a problem. Z270 addresses this though.

Overall, for an i7 class, any single GPU out there is fine, even 1080 Ti or TitanXP

This is just wrong. I have a 1050 in my budget build and can get 60fps in every game I play @1080p. A 1050ti is better so it should get better results. Obviously I can't max games like witcher 3 but can play at 1080p60.

OP if you have the money though get the best card you can afford. If only playing at 1080p stay with a 1060 6gb though.

GTX1050TI is horrible in term of frps per dollar。A RX470 cost 10 to 20 dollars more and offers 30% more performance.

This is how they stack, listed by performance level:

1050 Ti 4GB is around $130-150 range

1060 3GB < Just avoid it, not worth it.

470 4GB is around the $150 (+ or - about $10-20 range factor into this price)
^ On some models you will find the 470 4GB on-sale for around $135

470 8GB -or- 480 4GB is around $180-$205 range

1060 6GB is around the $240-300 ranges

480 8GB is around $220-250 ranges

Overall, the 470 & 480 are the better value for the $ now.
Mostly due to the fact they have been dropping in price over time; while their performance has gotten better over time with Driver & Game Updates in areas such as DX11, DX12, Vulkan performance. Plus you can do AMD CFX (CrossFire) with any of those in same model series; 470 or 480. However if you are aiming for CFX, then best bet would be to lean towards an 8GB model if you plan to add in a 2nd GPU later.

No, your i7 6700 will unlikely be the bottleneck using a RX 470.

GTX 1080: Very marginal difference what processor you have. Basically it doesn't matter there either.

So for Rise of the Tomb raider even with a GTX 1080 if you play at 1440 with a $64 G4560 processor you get 67 FPS minimum and with the $330ish i7 6700K you get 70 FPS minimum.

GTX 1050Ti: Doesn't matter what processor you have.
GTX 1060: Doesn't really matter whatever you have the i3 or the i7 6700K, the G4560 is 10% slower though.
GTX 1080: Here you get the difference, minimum 54 FPS with G4560 which is pretty fine I'd say but minimum 94 FPS with i7 6700K, not really twice as high but the i7 6700K really made a difference there.

Hitman, 1440p, Ultra
With the GTX 1060 it still doesn't matter.
GTX 1080: min 51 on G4560, 56 on i3 7350K, 60 on i5 7600K and 64 on i7 6700K, so it made a difference but pretty small.

Maffia 3: It make a difference one the G4560 peaks out at about 40 FPS but at 1440p high quality you need the GTX 1080 to get there.

Gears of war 4, 1440p ultra (if you lower the quality and resolution more you'll notice the difference with simplier cards) the GTX 1060 handle all the same at min 43/44 FPS, with the GTX 1080 they run at 50 and 80 FPS respectively so a difference there.

Civilization IV even with the GTX 1060 there's a difference. 37 vs 59 FPS min in 1080p ultra.

So the G4560 is good for .. well, can't generalize really but 40-50 FPS gaming (min FPS), the i5 6600K 60-70 FPS maybe and the i7 6700K some more FPS still.

The question with "enough" is weird though. If you think the RX 470 have enough graphical performance than you don't need to buy anything faster. With that graphics card at high quality setting maybe a i5 6600K would had worked about as well but does that really matter all that much? However with a GTX 1080 your i7 6700K would provide an advantage vs something simplier because you'd be able to put out those higher FPS numbers at both 1080p and 1440p, maybe on 4K it wouldn't matter all that much again because the graphics card would be so busy rendering the scene.

All graphics cards will provide bottlenecks if you choose a high resolution and quality. The question is what result you want. And by going 720p everything on low using a GTX 1080 or so maybe the graphics card is fine to render at 200+ FPS and then "finally" the CPU will become the bottleneck but ..

You have a good processor so you've got performance to spare there and it's about the best one can have for gaming right now so that's all fine.
If you don't want to buy the most expensive graphics cards that's also fine. You can buy a cheaper one even if you have a powerful processor. The GTX 1080Ti will launch the 10th or something so maybe some of the others become a bit cheaper then? If you feel GTX 1060 or RX 480 is what you can afford then feel free to buy that. They are adequate cards for 1080p Ultra gaming so to say.
