Does anyone here even own a Steam Machine?
It was a bigger failure than the Apollo 1.

I've seen them at Costco.
Does that count?

Come to think of it, I've never even seen one for sale.

I've seen the Alienware one on sale but not any other variety.
The Machines could have been a huge success with proper marketing and build quality, but they lacked both.

Would a old dual core pc with steam os on it count as a "custom" steam machine? No? I have never even seen one in real life.

Prob not, it was braindead idea to begin with.

Does building dual boot machines count? However, I had to uninstall them all it wasn't worth the hassle to maintain. Using a full Linux distribution was much more useful.

The point of SteamOS was Valve's warning shot at Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform?

That isn't the main reason why they failed. The main reason they were dead out of the gate is the fact that Linux isn't a priority for devs(especially AAA devs) and noone in their right mind would buy a pc and then limit themselves to a library that was linux compatible.

The idea in itself made sense; create a pc that acted like a console to get the console gamers to buy in. The problem is that what sounds great on paper doesn't translate into a good idea in the real world. Console gamers would no doubt buy the cheapest Steam Machine out there, realize it couldn't even play every game in the limited library available to it, and that isn't just one lost customer but it's someone who is now totally jaded against pc gaming in general.
