Slow download speed on Realtek RTL8811AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB 2.0 (range or something else?)
Ok so I'm thinking that my download speed is because I'm across the apartment from my wireless router, but I wanted to make sure that is why it is slow because the fastest download speed I get is around 700 KB/s. I think I'm about 50-60 ft from my wireless router.

If it does seem like there is something wrong with that speed, let me know what might be the problem if not the range.

If it is just the range, does anybody know any wifi adaptors that could handle that range and have fast download speeds because, right now, it take about 13 hours just to download a 26gb game. Please and thank you.

Hi, as others have suggested changing your adapter to use one standard only is a great option because it restricts the modes. Just keep in mind if your access point is 802.11n then you are unable to use 802.11ac, I believe 802.11ac is only over 5Ghz, remember 2.4Ghz provides faster speeds over very long ranges.

My advice would actually be to run a powerline adapter. If you can plug your PC and router in, then you should be able to use a powerline adapter, most modern adapters just set themselves up. You can get faster speeds over powerline compared to a very low and weak wifi signal.

Please post your computer specs and what OS you're running. If that USB adapter is inside a desktop computer and has no external antenna, that may explain it.

Yes the USB adapter is inside the computer. This is my pc, I haven't changed anything https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227670&_ga=2.184507361.697059074.1500508104-511394556.1499982952

I am litterally a room above the router. The floor shouldn't be the problem.

Morning everyone, I am having the same problem when running a 80 mbps, download speed on other devices my RTL8811AU can't download for ♥♥♥♥. I have tried finding drivers, but half of them are sketchy as ♥♥♥♥. I have tried almost everything on here and I am still lost.

Drivers from where? Get the Driver from the branded site of the device maker.

Yes I tried from http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=64&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Bought from IBUYPOWER October 2016, now since November 30 2017 started acting up, used to have great service, other person in house has same PC as me and is not experiencing issues, now overnight it continually drops connection, at one point was offline for 8 hours, thought it was perhaps my provider, but speedtest shows 60mb/s download, other person is connected and with higher speedtest (He has a PCIe installed instead of this USB junk I have so maybe thats why he gets 90 while I get 60 but whatever), however, even when Im connected my ping is incredibly high now (Used to be 30-100 on gaming servers like within 600 miles) now my ping will be 200-400 and jumps to 700's and I continually get booted for high ping. called the provider and they dont have issues. I also noticed I used to be able to see the neighbors wifi and now I only see my 5.0 and 2.4 frequency networks, Im buying a PCIe to see if that solves the problem, maybe this WIFI adapter is dying. Seeing we have the same PC maybe its a problem with ibuypower, thats what you get for buying cheap I guess, the included mouse wheel also is malfunctioning xD

btw game I tested ping is SQUAD, which doesnt have a great ping indictator but its enough to show me my stuffs messed up. Also would get ~150 ping on servers even in West coast USA and the UK 120-200 when Im in NA on FULL servers (80 players). Now on populated servers Im instantly booted or cant connect, servers with 1 other player with the BEST ping possible I was 200-400 with 700 spikes.

Please make your own thread, then we can begin to help.

If you are using WiFi, try changing the Wireless Channel in the Modem/Router.
I've had same problem (slow download, fast upload). Updating drivers from control panel solved problem
you guys are amazing ! this has been driving me nuts for weeks , I went to adapter settings and changed from auto to ac and my speed went from 2mbps to 213! had no idea you could do that
