Depends more on certain models, than a brand alltogether.
There are exceptions to the rules in the tiers though ie evga G1 and B1 not that good, corsair CX not the best, do the research.
Does it really matter if the PSU is bronze or gold? because I dont want to overclock and like the look of Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
For me no it doesn't matter bronze to gold, the seasonic 620w bronze is a good all around psu, the antec 620w was rumored to have the same guts as the seasonic 620.
Efficiency/ripple ratings on the bronze type psus are good in the %50 usage range and some of the bronze psus can be bought on sale for cheap.

750w @ 378w %88.2 rating, 528w it only drops to %87.4 ^.
I usually pick up psus 600w-750w cheap on sales around $50ish cdn the most I paid was $109cdn for an 850w seasonic silver.
Imho, buying a minimal wattage psu say 450-500w and pushing the psu usage up to say %80+ish usage is not something I'd do.
I'm using antec earthwatts 650w $34/ $50 750w, antec 620w $45, seasonic silver 850w $109 and bought the evga B2 750w for my daughter $60, no problems with any of them. I've got some of the old Fortron/sparkle 400PN psus still kicking in my parents and brothers Web/TV/office PCs.
Do your research don't get hung up on ratings and pick psus up when they're cheap on sales.
Ps, an overlooked feature on psus is the continuous output temperature rating 50c is considered good and 40c is mediocre.
However, if its in budget, I'd recommend the seasonic S12ii 520 and 620 if you don't mind going non modular. Those use higher quality components than the CX 500 and they don't normally cost a lot more either.
Reviewed and tested by experts. Does that mean other power supplies are junk. Nope just means these pass a certain standard.
Yes check out the link rookie posted above me ^ as well as the link upcoast posted above.
Something like this is very good bang-for-buck
http://pcpartpicker.com/product/fZyFf7/seasonic-power-supply-s12ii520bronze (or the 620W model) and not made from a bunch of low quality internals from China
As long as not a VS or CX model, sure.
