Ryzen 7 1700 or Ryzen 5 1600X?
I need help deciding which of these two processors I should buy. The R7 1700 has more cores and a lower base GHZ, while the R5 1600X has less cores and a higher base GHZ, along with SFR. I know that AMD Master would allow me to tweak the 1700 to act like a better 1600X, but the price is pretty high. I've never overclocked, so I don't know how user-friendly these chips are (Very few people do, as they aren't out). I'm going to pair these with an Asrock Taichi, as early leaked reviews show it's the second-best Ryzen board.

it depends on your needs...
if you need what an X ryzen cpu provides, then get it. otherwise, get the higher-end model you are willing to spend on...

The 1600X has a higher base clock and is cheaper. I know the 1700 can be overclocked to be faster than an 1800X, but I would need decent cooling and I have no OCing experience.
Looking at firestike benches probably 1700. Since, bench appeared to be 1700x oc'd, 1700x, 1600x, and 1300. I am waiting on 1400x.

So how does the 1700 compare to the 7700K? I'm expecting it to blow the 7700K out of the water in multi-core tests, but lose in single-core tests at stock speeds.
I've been hearing/seeing that very new DX12 games favor more cores (BF1, For Honor, ATS), so the 1700 may just be more futureproof..

better wait for official benchmarks and reviews,,,maybe in 4 days...
i have read some info that a number of users are buying X cpus because of that SFR.
ATM I am waiting on reviews, but looking at Canard PC's benches and giving the highend. Even accounting for a better IPC. I would expect Ryzen gaming bench's using Ryzen CPU vs 7700k to be less than the 7700k. In gaming benchmarks the 7700k or 6700k oc'd seem to be the best gaming CPU ATM. Unless Vega can close the gap. Userbenchmark has a 3.4 no turbo 1700 score at #5. http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/french-magazing-posts-engineering-sample-amd-ryzen-processor-benchmarks.html

I highly recommend waiting a week after the 1st week of March, so you can check out all the reviews, and ensure what the comparison is going to be, when comparing multiple CPU's.
Well the R5 1600x should have a better Single core performance than the R7 1700 and it's still a great 6c/12t for the futur muti-threaded games, and they are good chances for the R5 1600x to have better Overclock capabilities ! Personnaly, i will upgrade my Old i5-2500k@ 4,6GHz for this one as soon as it get available ! And to be honest i was an Intel-Fanboy before but not by pure blindeness like somes, But i try to make the more effective choice everytime i have to buy something expansive and make a lot of researches about it and right now it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ non-sense to buy Intel like it was for AMD between the first Athlons and Ryzen ! My advice, wait for the R5 ! :D
PS: Sorry my English suck

Wait for the real reviews, it's too early to say one or the other.

True, but some benchmarks already allow us to know the single core perf and multi core perfs and we can say that the single core is more or less close to the one of intel, but the multi core perf blow out Intel's one. Now you need to know that most games don't use more than 4 threads but it starting to change with the last AAA games and the Xbox One scorpio comming with it's 8 cores CPU (games ported from consoles will be more likely to have multi-threaded optimisations)

What we really don't know is the overclocks capabilities but the first leaks seems pretty encouraging and this is what's increasing the most the Single core performances

There is no benchmarks of single core performance vs kaby or skylake afaik. They both have higher single core performace compared to haswell and broadwell.

yes there are : http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700-gaming-performance-benchmarks-leak/

as you can see the performance is close to the top single core performances of intel (7700k) but with a very lower frequency so the IPC/Frenquency should be more or less (great chances for more) the same and the overclock should do the work, the thing is the 1600x have a really better frequency than the 1700. So for games the 1600x should be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beast and will cost less :D

PS: the full Ryzen lineup is the same chip but with modulate cores, frequency and on-demand overclocking so the IPC/frequency stay the same for all the chips. Even if the silicon lottery play a role were the good CPU will be in the top tier and the worst in the low tier

Don't forget not like Intel AMD won't change socket for at least 4 years.

Future proof is revelvant.

I think your future proof enough with 6 core also for next couple of years plus for price its awesome.
Wait for benches i say see what suits you best.
the 1700 is just not for gaming with his low fequencies, the R7 1800x and R5 1600x are.
