Sapphire NITRO r9 fury temps
I just installed my new fury card (stock, not OC) and it seems to be running a bit high. 35C idle and 80C on load. Most benchmark tests I've seen say 75 load and 31C idle, which isn't much different, but I am curious why the difference for a stock setting.

What's the maximum temp for this card before I should worry more?

I have a antec twelve hundred which allows plenty of airflow and my processor (i5 4690) stays around 40C.

80*C under loads is not high, even though most AMD do tend to run a little hotter compared to an equally performing NVIDIA GPU; that's not high yet.

If you are peaking 85-90*C then yea getting hot.

When last time you dusted/blew out all the dust from the Case and parts?
How many Case Fans do you have, and where?

I last cleaned it about a week ago and just installed in the card today (also blowing out the connectors). I have 3 fans in the front, 2 in the back, and 1 top fan. All of them are 120mm except the top which is even bigger.

I didn't think about that, good point

You also have to factor in that "most" Benchmarks/Stress tests would more than likely push the GPU to the max to a point to which most Games out there will not. So in those "tests" you are more likely to see the GPU run hotter compared to how it would run during your average game.

So test with 20-30 min tests or so; in apps like:
- AIDA64
- 3DMark
- Unigine Valley (given your GPU, no real point to running Unigine Heaven)

Monitor CPU/GPU Temps basically at all times.

Overall, if the stress tests are doing well and nothing is overheating or throttling; then you should be fine. Then re-test when you get a chance, using a stressful game and see how that does and compares to the stressing benchmarks in terms of loads, temps, etc...

Oh sorry, the temps I have were running a game, not a benchmark. I was comparing my game temps to online benchmarks. So my card is showing that it runs hotter in a game than a benchmark test. That's why I was concerned in the first place.

Ok well I would run the above benchmarks perhaps and see how it does on those.

Some games engines are also kind of bugged to where it may push the GPU to run hot, for no real reason, when VSync is disabled. A lot of Unity Engine games do this from what I have seen. So for game purposes, might be good idea to use some form of VSync; not only can help with screen tearing, but also keeping the GPU Temp down. When you let it run at max; 100-200 FPS + all the time, etc. yes the GPU is going to generally run quite a bit hotter compared to when VSync is enabled.

Cool. I'll check out some benchmarks then. I'll try vsync too and see what happens, Thanks for the tips!
