Broken fx 8320 or bottleneck?
hey guys i just upgraded to a Zotac Geforce GTX 1070 amp extreme edition and i am still getting 960 performance on most my games. Even pretty old ones. i ran a benchmark that tells me my cpu is running at 2.3ghz but its actually OC'd to 4.2ghz. im still pretty new to all this plz help

Edit/Update

I replaced my Mobo with a 970a-ud3p and got a mid tower case but i am still getting bad performance.

Tl,dr my cpu is being throttled for some odd reason during high load
Latest Benchmark notice the turbo is way lower than the core speed http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/2996711

The Motherboard tells you about this.
DOCP / XMP > this locks in your RAM and applies the correct settings, via a profile onboard your RAM.

If for some reason it says nothing about DOCP / XMP
Look for terms like: AMD AMP or DRAM PROFILE

So its running at 1333 then; yes enable the DRAM PROFILE

In your BIOS it is called:
Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)

Then please refer to the Motherboard Manual; thats what I looked at to find the exact term; since it can differ depending on Brand/Board Model.

Simple google your Motherboard's "Brand Model"
And you should find the officially branded website be at the top (assuming you have adblocker on to block Google-Ads in the searches and such) and from the Motherboard page, go to Support > Manual

ok cool thanks
M.I.T. > Advanced Frequency Settings > Extreme Memory Profile(X.M.P.)

Maybe?

i saw a youtube video showing where it is but that option isnt even available for me. (doesnt show up at all anywhere) i bumped the volts and manually set it to 1330 but it doesnt stick. hmmm
I don't know what model motherboard you have to I "couldn't" search for a manual so we likely watched the same video :)

oh i have the gigabyte 970a-ud3p.
"Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) (Note 2)
Allows the BIOS to read the SPD data on XMP memory module(s) to enhance memory performance when
enabled.
Disabled Disables this function. (Default)
Profile1 Uses Profile 1 settings.
Profile2 (Note 2) Uses Profile 2 settings"

" Advanced Memory Settings
& ExtremeMemory Profile (X.M.P.) (Note 2), System Memory Multiplier, Memory Frequency(MHz)
The settings above are synchronous to those under the same items on the Advanced Frequency Settings
menu"

http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-970a-ud3p_v.2.x_e.pdf

It's definitely mentioned there, as for why it's not showing if it's not maybe it's not shown for memories which have no XMP profiles? Maybe the RAM modules are just standard ones.

Yea you should see
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.)
in plain sight, it shouldn't be hidden via a bunch of sub-menus.
It should be on Disabled, go to that and when you are on that option, press Enter and it should give options for selectable Profiles, based on your installed RAM. As they generally have XMP Profiles within a ROM onboard your RAM.

When RAM is on the Default of AUTO, all that does is apply generic defaults "SPD"
Which will run the RAM at the lowest (like DDR3 @ 1333). You have to apply XMP (or manually change all those DRAM settings) in order for your RAM to be configured correctly and run like it was meant to. The reason for AUTO / SPD is to ensure that by default, that the system has no issues (unless faulty RAM usually) POSTing properly; so that is why such a default is there. But again you want to apply your full RAM Profile as per the specs, so it runs at its full potential with regards to timings, voltage, and overall performance.
